The higher the realm, the more important the mastery of the laws became. Tianyi was the best example. Early in his years in the Immortal Realm, the Concealed Emperor had long suspected his level three conduit had reached the divine level. Even if it wasn’t, it was at least half-divine, but he was only able to display the power of a monarch because of his inadequate mastery over the Law of Spacetime.

Tianyi’s situation improved as his comprehension of the Law of Spacetime improved, allowing him to become a recognized immortal sovereign-level expert. In the Concealed Emperor’s case, although his talent was incredible, it did not match Tianyi’s talent, especially after the latter formed his inner universe. It was all because Tianyi had delayed himself in comprehending the other laws.

Comprehending the other laws was not wasteful. In fact, many cultivators would choose to do this, but only after they reached a bottleneck in their understanding. They would comprehend other worldly laws in order to analyze their primary law, hoping to gain new insights through comparison. None of them would dare to be distracted like Tianyi because even if they reached the Immortal Realm or mastered a complete worldly law, they would discover that the Dao was too vast and they had only walked a little bit farther than other people.

Even the Concealed Emperor’s main body, Guang Chengzi, felt this way at his peak, much less a clone who had not reached that level.

The Concealed Emperor was considered a peak divinity, someone who stood at the top of the pyramid in the primordial era, but even he did not dare to take Tianyi lightly.

In the battle between gods, mystery became the foundation. If the weaker divinity possessed a greater mystery, he could injure and even kill a stronger divinity. The mystery of Tianyi’s Divine Law of Spacetime was superior to his Law of Light. If it were the Law of Light and Darkness of his main body, it would have been another story, but both his main body and his fellow clone who mastered the Law of Darkness had already fallen long ago.

If a comparison had to be made, it would be akin to how a true immortal could never kill an immortal monarch that reforged their body with a complete worldly law. Because of this, even immortal sovereigns could not touch the divine. Even if they could use divine essence, they would not be able to harm a divinity unless they invested a large amount. If an immortal sovereign replaced all the essence qi in their body with divine essence and used it all for one attack, it might only leave a single scratch on a divinity.

It was only thanks to Tianyi’s endless supply of divine essence that he could cause some semblance of damage to the Concealed Emperor, but that didn’t mean it was all that useful. Before Tianyi copied Divinity Yanxu’s final attack, all his attacks amounted to scratches on the Concealed Emperor at best. Now, it was different.

Compared to its offensive power, the Law of Spacetime was more suited for defense and escaping. The mystery contained in Tianyi’s Law of Spacetime made it difficult for the Concealed Emperor to block and restrain him.

No matter how slippery Tianyi was thanks to the Law of Spacetime, the Concealed Emperor’s attacks could still hit him. Because everything was not solely determined by the mystery produced by a divine law. The depth of the path proven was also important.

Countless beams of light struck Tianyi. When they neared him, they seemed to stop for a split second before resuming and boring a hole into his body. In that split second, the beams had traveled millions of kilometers before hitting his body. Alas, even such a distance could not stop the beams of light. It only resulted in them slightly decreasing in diameter, signifying the loss of a small portion of power.

The holes created by the beams spewed black gas endlessly. Even after landing, the beams did not stop and followed wherever Tianyi’s body moved. This lasted only a second before the beams exited out the other end. No, that was not correct. Tianyi had merged with the spacetime of the Vast Void, causing the beams to phase through him harmlessly.

The beams of light seemed to transform into harmless rays as Tianyi flew toward the Concealed Emperor. He wanted to teleport to the side, but the Concealed Emperor released a brilliant light that stretched for hundreds of kilometers. The closer to the source, the harder it was to mobilize the surrounding spacetime. It was as if the latter was creating a realm—one that he controlled absolutely.

Tianyi raised his hand toward the figure shrouded in brilliance. He clenched.

Space around the Concealed Emperor shrank. Where the light once spanned hundreds of kilometers, it now only reached a few kilometers, and even the divinity of light had become minuscule. If an ordinary mortal appeared, he would not even be able to see the Concealed Emperor because of how tiny he became.

Despite his shrunken size, Tianyi discovered that once he neared the Concealed Emperor, the danger had not decreased. Nor did it increase. The compression seemed to do nothing to the divinity of light. It was only after a few more clashes that he understood that size meant nothing to divinities. At least, if a divinity’s mass could not equal an entire system, size was meaningless.

Rather than wasting energy on keeping the Concealed Emperor shrunk, it would be better to allocate it elsewhere. So Tianyi released his compression over spacetime.

He waved his hand, slashing it out like a sword. That swing bore a significant resemblance to the final slash of Divinity Yanxu. Only, the mystery of destruction was replaced by spacetime. The slash traveled invisibly through spacetime.

Even the Concealed Emperor could not detect the slash until it was only a thousand kilometers away from him. He immediately used his field of light to destroy the slash. Unfortunately, he discovered the immense amount of energy contained in that slash. If he wanted to erase it, he would need to use a corresponding amount. The amount wasted was only one ten-thousandth of the energy in the slash, but the Concealed Emperor couldn’t help but worry. He had firmly remembered Tianyi’s greatest advantage.

As he expected, the Concealed Emperor soon discovered several more spacetime slashes. The application of the Divine Law of Spacetime was rudimentary, but the superior mystery more than made up for it.

It was fine at first; there were ten concurrent spacetime slashes at most, but as time passed, the number increased despite his efforts to curb them. He could not sense Tianyi’s exact location because he was too far away, nor could he stall Tianyi’s attacks.

The number of spatial slashes increased at a slow but steady pace. From ten to twenty, to fifty, and eventually over a hundred. The Concealed Emperor could resolve each one, and the divine essence he used couldn’t even equal a fraction, but there were two problems.

First, the number of spacetime slashes continued to increase, and if he continued to defend, he would lose more and more divine essence. Even as a divinity with high essence regeneration, he could not compare with Tianyi. Second, the amount of concentration he had to use in order to erase the spacetime slashes drained him mentally. He could use a wide-area spell, but that would only waste more divine essence—something he had to conserve for Tianyi’s subsequent offense.

Finally, one of the spacetime slashes made it through and landed on the Concealed Emperor’s body. Although his body was pure light, it left a small cut on his wrist. It was barely a few millimeters deep, and golden blood leaked out. It seemed insignificant, but at the rate that the spacetime slashes increased, he would receive more and more injuries.

Originally, the Concealed Emperor didn’t want to harm Tianyi too much. He knew if he didn’t handle this matter well, it would leave a scar in Tianyi’s heart and plant an unstable bomb in the Heavenly Immortal Court. He originally wanted to last it out until Tianyi grew tired, but it seemed that before Tianyi got tired, he would be defeated.

“Sorry, your growth is too explosive. I’m going to have to get serious,” the Concealed Emperor said, his voice barely above a whisper, but Tianyi heard it loud and clear.

Nothing seemed to have changed, and the Concealed Emperor just waved his hand, but alarm bells went off in Tianyi’s head. Before he knew it, he discovered that light permeated his entire surroundings. Even with his advanced senses, he could not detect an area without light. It was as if he had been transported from the Vast Void to a special world of only radiance.

Tianyi had only a split second before the alarm bells turned into sirens. But strangely, nothing happened to him. Not because the Concealed Emperor changed his mind, but because a third party intervened.

“Members of the Heavenly Immortal Court are not allowed to kill each other, even if the perpetrator is a divinity!”

Tianyi recognized that voice, and so did the Concealed Emperor. Before they could react, the radiant world was split in half, revealing the darkness of the Vast Void. What followed was the Concealed Emperor’s cry.

When Tianyi looked over, he saw the Concealed Emperor crouched over, a hand over a laceration starting from his shoulder to his waist. Copious amounts of golden blood continued to leak out, without any sign of stopping.

“Those who break the rules shall be punished!”

Tianyi felt his eyes grow hot. It felt like ages since he had last cried. His current body could not cry, and the tears streaming down his face were just a manifestation of his belief. Since he believed he was crying, his power formed tears to slide down his cheeks.

The voice was cold and emotionless, dominated by the Heavenly Dao, but he could feel a sense of care in it. Perhaps the reason he wasn’t attacked was due to some other special reasons, but he’d like to think it was his mother’s protection for him. Call it wishful thinking, but Tianyi decided it, so it must be the truth.

In complete contrast, the Concealed Emperor had a bitter smile. It was clearly Tianyi who provoked him first, but it was he who got punished. However, he had no intention of seeking justice. After all, he could tell that Mengfei’s state was strange, and if he did anything to her now, Tianyi would definitely attack him again. Once that happened, he could either escape or get beaten. If he fought back, he believed that he would receive another sword from the Heavenly Empress.

Now, the Concealed Emperor disappeared. He didn’t want to take his chances and see if Tianyi would continue attacking him once he broke out of his emotional moment.

The Concealed Emperor’s disappearance broke Tianyi out of his emotional entanglement. Tears still streamed down his face, but a new light flashed in his eyes. It wasn’t visible, nor a reflection of his powers. It was simply his determination.

Without looking back, he also disappeared.

The split world of light and spacetime distortions remained in Tianyi and the Concealed Emperor’s absence. The abundant light essence and spacetime essence may or may not form a new realm in the future, but for now, the remnant of the two divinities’ battle polluted the once-empty space. Perhaps only after hundreds of thousands of years, if not millions, would this area of the Vast Void return to emptiness.

Tianyi reappeared in Eminence Heaven Palace, right in front of the throne. There, he saw the Heavenly Empress again, with no hint of his mother. He walked until he stood before her, but she still didn’t react. His hands reached out, but halfway there, he suddenly retracted them.

He just stood there for hours, staring at his mother.

“Mother, wait for me,” Tianyi finally said. He turned around, but his figure didn’t vanish—as if he were hesitating, wondering whether to take one last look. In the end, Tianyi never turned around and disappeared.

When he reappeared, he did not return to Nine Heavens Peak, but appeared before the entrance to the treasury. He walked through the wall. Normally, he would need permission to retrieve what he wanted, but even if he didn’t, he didn’t think anyone could stop him.

If they fought him and things became serious, his mother would take action. Tianyi harbored no hope that Mengfei would remain the same after the long years, so while he could still use her deterrence, he had to obtain something that could threaten the Heavenly Dao.
