Prologue
"But will this give Siesta her happy ending?"
Siesta? widened her eyes at my words.
But you know what?
Natsunagi and I, Saikawa and Charl, we graduated from the curses of our past.
So what about Siesta?
Could she really have a happy ending?
"Kimihiko…you’re wrong."
Siesta? lifted herself up, and Natsunagi hastily supported her by the shoulder.
"Master Siesta is already satisfied with this outcome. She has the four of you as her legacy, and your individual problems have been solved. Her job is already done?"
"No!"
And I shook my head, shutting off what ?Siesta? wanted to say.
"She cried."
I recalled back to a year ago.
Where we had our showdown against Hel at the island hideout of ?SPES?.
Siesta chose to sacrifice herself to seal off the enemy, and we bade farewell. I lost consciousness due to the ?pollen? released by the ?biological weapon?, and never got to see her last expression.
But I remembered. Finally, at this point, I remembered.
Siesta…she cried.
She recalled the taste of the apple pie she ate with me.
She recalled the time we lived together in the cheap apartment.
She recalled the time she wore the wedding dress and took photos.
She was reluctant to bid farewell to me, when we could be together tomorrow, a week later, a month later, forever.
And then, she remembered the frenetic three years we spent together?
"Siesta cried, she said she ‘didn’t want to die’."
Yeah, that’s right. That’s the thing.
"Say, ?Siesta?. You abducted us and showed us that footage from a year ago...and you showed the sight of Siesta crying at the very end when I passed out after inhaling the ?pollen?. Was that your own decision?"
That’s because, that Siesta…that stubborn detective who wouldn’t show an honest smile, would never show us her crying face. The maid betrayed her Master by airing that footage.
So what was her intention behind that?there was only one truth.
"That’s the real answer to the mistake you wanted us to find, right?"
Natsunagi widened her eyes at my words.
That was the first task ?Siesta? gave to Natsunagi and me?? to find a certain mistake that Siesta had allegedly made a year ago. Natsunagi and I found one mistake that concerned Hel.
But there wasn’t just one.
There was another mistake that Siesta herself was unaware of.
That’s why back then, ?Siesta? asked me…no, the famous detective that was Natsunagi to correct Siesta’s mistake . She requested the new detective.
And actually, Natsunagi found that answer.
During the battle against Fuubi just now, Natsunagi yelled?that Siesta shouldn’t die. At the very end, she said that the correct future was for the loved ones to accompany each other and smile together.
And thus?it was a mistake to assume the ending of the story was that Siesta had to cry.
"Kimihiko…what are you going to do?"
Siesta?, who was physically supported by Natsunagi, showed a dumbfounded expression.
I grabbed her by both shoulders, and shouted at her, who was elsewhere.
"??You hear me?
I’m not giving up on you!
You may be satisfied with this outcome, but I’m not going to allow it!
Maybe nobody out there understands me!
Whether it’s Natsunagi!
Or Saikawa!
Or Charlotte!
This might be completely illogical to the ways of the world!
But I’ll definitely do it!
One day, I’ll revive you!
I promise, definitely!"
And that moment, Saikawa and Charl grabbed my arms.
"You’re an idiot, Kimizuka-san."
"You idiot, Kimizuka."
They cried. Large tears rolled down their cheeks as they supported me.
And then I looked up to see Natsunagi give a teary smile at me.
"You’re an idiot, Kimizuka."
Her right hand shook as she hit her left chest.
Did it reach her?
I didn’t know…if my voice reached the other person who should be here.
"Goodness."
I let out a soft sigh. ?Siesta? looked as though she was dealing with brats, and smiled,
"?Idiots, the lot of you."
She spoke in Siesta’s stead.
She shed tears, and one would wonder if she was really a robot.
"…The sun has risen."
She then turned her head aside, and gently said so.
The road leading to the sea was slowly covered in sunlight. The blue skies were mixed with some orange, the white lighthouse faced the dawning skies, and the sun showed its face in the distant horizon.
"Yeah, this is where it starts."
This was where we would begin our rebellion against the world.
Is the detective already dead?
No.
It was a long, long, dazzling story to reclaim the detective once again.
