With the speed of the wyverns, we were able to reach the location where the corruption was reported.
It seemed like the prime minister had already prepared everything with how many soldiers were in this place. He had sent an entire army just to lock down this area and make sure that no one approached.
Based on what he said, he had only done this two days ago and he had already gathered all of these soldiers.
Effective, that was the only word to describe the prime minister.
Though another thing we noticed when we arrived was that the soldiers seemed to be moving back. It seemed that they were moving away from something that was in front of them.
Seeing the wyverns appear, they suddenly stopped and stood their ground.
All of them also immediately saluted towards the wyverns even though they couldn't actually see who it was that was on the wyvern. It was just that they recognized that anyone that would be able to command a wyvern was someone that was pretty high up.
Especially if they were traveling with a group of wyverns like this.
So they saluted without hesitation and one of their members came forward to greet us. This was most likely the commander of this army.
After landing, the first thing that I did was ask, "What's the situation?"
The commander naturally recognized me, but he didn't say anything as he revealed a bitter smile. There was even a trace of worry in his eyes, almost as if he was afraid to say what he was thinking.
"Speak."
When he heard this from me, he had no choice but to speak.
"The corruption that we were watching over…it started to spread again. We had no choice but to back away from it since it was spreading again." Once the flood gates opened, it didn't seem like he was going to hold himself back anymore.
"The soldiers that were under me tried to stand their ground against the corruption, but those that made contact had their bodies corroded. It was hard to save them, but we were able to save them in the end. However, many of them are still in critical condition after what happened."
He went on to report on what happened, but I suddenly raised a hand to stop him.
It wasn't that I wasn't interested in his reports, it was just that after a certain point, he had started to ramble. It seemed that even though he was a well trained commander, he still couldn't help being fazed when he was faced with the corruption energy.
The commander also realized this, so there was a bitter smile that appeared on his face.
I didn't blame him for this since the unknown was what was the most scary for humans. This corruption energy was one of those things that we barely knew anything about, so it only made sense that they feared it when they didn't know how to deal with it.
"Where are the priests from the Holy Empire?" I turned to ask the prime minister.
The prime minister revealed a slight frown before saying, "They said that they had something to take care of, so they disappeared three days ago. I received a report earlier that they had just returned, so I sent word to them to come to this place to meet us, but it doesn't seem like they're here yet."
"It's fine as long as they're coming. We'll have them take care of the soldiers that were injured by the corruption energy."
The prime minister nodded in agreement to this.
I certainly could have taken care of those soldiers with the holy relics that I possessed. The divine energy that they possessed would have been more than enough to purify the corruption energy that they had been affected by.
But I chose not to use it on them.
It wasn't that I didn't care about my people, it was just that there was something else that I needed to use this divine energy on.
There was no telling how much corruption energy was in front of us and the commander had said that it was still spreading
So it was better to use the divine energy to purify the corruption energy at its source to get rid of any hidden dangers.
"Move aside and let us through."
The commander had a worried look on his face when he heard this. It really seemed like he wanted to convince me not to go forward, but the prime minister made him move with a single glare.
No matter what, there was no one that could go against the prime minister in this kingdom.
But I still said with a bright smile, "We'll be fine, don't worry about us."
Then with a pat on Joan's head, we started flying forward.
It didn't take long for us to see the corruption energy that was spreading outwards. It seemed like it was quite aggressive with the way that it spread at a visible speed.
The moment that I saw this, I pulled out the Staff of Earth and released a wall of earth in front of me. This wall of earth cut off part of the corruption energy that was spreading, but that wasn't the only thing that it did.
The moment that this wall of earth appeared, the rest of the corruption energy around this area stopped spreading as well.
It was as if it reacted to the sudden unknown entity that had appeared in its domain.
The corruption energy seemed to shake before it suddenly shrank back a bit, only that shrinking back wasn't because it was afraid of the wall of earth filled with divine energy that I created.
Instead, the corruption energy was gathering itself to slam right into the wall of earth.
It immediately started climbing the wall of earth and even though it was being purified, it was actually overwhelming the wall of earth.
Without hesitation, I gathered more energy and raised even more walls of earth around the one that I raised before to form a larger wall.
