Chapter 2285: Chapter 2286: Going on a Mission is Like Going on a Date
Lin Yi quickly drove to the Xinshan branch office.
The situation in the station was the same as before; it seemed like nothing had changed.
Seeing Lin Yi had arrived, Zhang Peng and Zhang Zixin also came over and asked about Li Xianghui’s condition.
Then, everyone quickly got into work mode.
Due to Li Xianghui’s injury, his position was left vacant and temporarily filled by Zhang Hui, since he was the most senior. His temporary replacement was more acceptable to everyone, and there was no problem with this arrangement.
But in Lin Yi’s view, this matter was pretty much settled. Even if Li Xianghui fully recovered later and wanted to continue in this position, his body might not allow it.
...After all, frontline work wasn’t easy.
For various reasons, Lin Yi was prepared to help Li Xianghui network a bit and transfer him to a higher position.
He still had a family to feed, and losing his job wouldn’t do.
Apart from that, Lin Yi thought about the system task.
For the final task, the system still gave no hints; he needed to trigger it.
But despite being busy all morning, nothing happened.
However, Lin Yi was used to it. Most of the previous tasks took a while to trigger as well.
The biggest reason Lin Yi wasn’t in a hurry was that after this “job” was done, he had to become a Daoist priest.
And most importantly, it meant going out of town.
He really wasn’t in the mood for that.
Damn system.
By three in the afternoon, Lin Yi had finished all his work—pretty much just finding things to do to trigger the system task.
But still, nothing happened.
After leaving the branch office, Lin Yi went to the hospital.
Zhao Yunhu was no longer in serious condition and could be discharged in a few days.
Li Xianghui was also much better; his hand could already move.
Only his left leg still had no feeling and needed rehabilitation.
After chatting with Li Xianghui for a while, Lin Yi received a call from Luo Qi, who said she found some information about Huang Renbo and wanted to discuss it with him.
After hanging up Luo Qi’s call, Lin Yi said goodbye to Ji Qingyan, telling her he wouldn’t pick her up today and asked her to go home on her own.
Then, following the address given by Luo Qi, Lin Yi arrived at a café named HCool.
“Why did you come here?”
“Lin Bro, look at the West Coast Bar diagonally opposite.”
“I’ve seen it online before; it seems quite chaotic.”
“I did some digging during the day, and it’s indeed not a good place. All sorts of people do business there; Huang Renbo used to hang out there before he died.”
“Then, what else did you find?” Lin Yi said, sipping his coffee.
“I found out Huang Renbo had a good buddy here named Li Jiawei, a bartender at the bar. To clear up Huang Renbo’s affair, we can only go through Li Jiawei.”
“Then just go to him directly. Why call me over? Is this going to be difficult?”
“Better safe than sorry,” said Luo Qi, taking a sip of lemon water,
“The owner of this bar is named He Shirong, and he has some fame in Zhong Hai. I heard he even has guns, and Li Jiawei is his nephew-in-law. I’m worried if we use force, it could lead to a shootout, so I called you.”
“Heh…”
Lin Yi snorted with laughter, putting down his coffee. “Let’s see who’s so bold.”
The two settled the bill and went to the bar named West Coast.
Although it was not yet fully dark, the occupancy rate inside was decent.
Yet it gave off a chaotic vibe.
Both men and women present weren’t of high quality, barely pleasing to the eye.
The arrival of Lin Yi and Luo Qi, like a crane standing out among chickens, attracted everyone’s attention.
As soon as they walked in, a waiter came over.
“Sir and ma’am, do you have a reservation?” the enthusiastic waiter asked upon seeing them.
“We just came to hang out; we’ll sit at the bar and have a drink.”
“Please follow me.”
The waiter made a welcoming gesture, unintentionally glancing at Luo Qi’s legs.
Those legs wrapped in black tights seemed infinitely charming in his eyes.
They were led to the bar and ordered a few bottles of beer at random; they didn’t see Li Jiawei anywhere around.
“It’s probably too early; that Li Jiawei hasn’t shown up yet,” Luo Qi said as she sipped her beer.
“No rush, we’ve got nothing else to do, let’s just while away the time here.”
“That’s what I was thinking,” said Luo Qi with a grin,
“That little b*tch Xiao Bing often goes on solo missions with you. This time it’s finally my turn; let’s pretend we’re on a date.”
Lin Yi found it a mixture of amusing and embarrassing, “After all this, you called me out here because of that?”
“Who doesn’t have their little selfish motives? We may not get you, but a little daydreaming is still possible.”
“Then I’ll give you a chance.”
Lin Yi clinked beers with Luo Qi, and the two of them seemed to enjoy their drinks.
Soon, more people filled into the bar, and the noise level escalated.
Two middle-aged men also sat at the bar, occasionally casting glances at Luo Qi’s legs.
Luo Qi, used to such looks, didn’t mind at all.
The two men looked her up and down for a while, then retreated into their own conversation.
“Brother Rong has been in a bad mood these last few days. He didn’t even respond to my greeting yesterday,” said the Bald man.
“These days, it’s best not to rub Brother Rong the wrong way. He’s had a business deal go sour, and he’s in a very bad mood. The other night, someone got drunk and caused a scene in the bar. When Brother Rong found out, he had the guy’s legs broken and dumped him in a dumpster. Normally, he wouldn’t react that way.”
“We should be careful these next few days. If we upset Brother Rong, there’s no telling what might happen.”
“Didn’t you notice people in the bar have been very quiet these days, not daring to cause trouble? It’s because of this.”
“Come on, let’s have a drink.”
At that moment, a young man wearing a black vest and a white shirt walked over from not far away.
A long-haired woman, dressed seductively, was with him. The two were arm in arm, walking to the bar with an intimate demeanor.
The man whispered into the woman’s ear, playfully slapped her behind, and then they parted ways.
As the young man approached, the Bald man greeted him with a smile.
“Jiawei, you’re here.”
“Just finished with something and came down to check out the business; it’s quite lively.”
As the two sides started talking, Luo Qi whispered to Lin Yi,
“Lin Bro, that’s Li Jiawei, He Shirong’s nephew-in-law.”
