SECRETS OF THE DATE
“Here, Bete Loga, open wide!”
I’m going to murder you.
Bete looked at the smiling Amazon and the spoonful of cake in her hand, and his eyes were filled with murderous rage. He and Lena were sitting outside a small café off North Main Street, where they had stopped after their Dungeon date to fill their bellies. If Bete had known this was coming, he would have refused—and according to the cheerful Amazon, she still intended to go shopping together after this as well!
But before that, Bete had to overcome the daunting task before him: the infamous “open wide.”
Bete knew all about this humiliating ritual thanks to all the times Loki had tried to force it on Aiz and the other girls in the familia. Merely hearing its name made his blood boil.
“Aren’t you hungry, Bete Loga?” asked Lena in a singsong voice. “If you don’t eat, I’ll be so sad I might forget all about the key you wanted to know about!”
Bete’s lips warped into a twisted scowl. “You little…!”
Meanwhile, Lena simply giggled. Bete couldn’t refuse. Not if he wanted to learn more about Knossos. Lena left him no choice but to swallow his pride…along with the contents of her spoon.
Dammit! Guess I have to get it over with before anyone sees…!
At least wanting to go out on his own terms, Bete grabbed Lena’s hand and pulled the offering toward his mouth.
“Wow! Easy there, tiger!”
However, like a trick played by fate, a single white-haired young boy picked that exact moment to turn the corner.
“…Huh?”
Bell was stupefied, and Bete’s jaw hit the floor, while Lena turned and cheerfully said, “Oh, look, it’s Little Rookie!”
Bete went fiery red to the very tips of his ears.
“I…I’m sorryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!”
“Hey! Come back here! You didn’t see a damn thing, got it?!!”
Bete got out of his seat and chased after the fleeing Bell, returning only after extracting a promise of absolute confidentiality.
