WELL, I DIDN’T THINK IT WAS POSSIBLE…
“Don’t let it get in the way of your work, but do you think you could keep an eye out for Bete?”
Just as Aiz had been getting ready to comb the city for clues on Knossos, Loki came to her with a request. After Bete clashed with some of the girls in the familia, he had promptly stormed off. Aiz wasn’t particularly concerned, but when Loki said, “You’re the only one I can count on for this,” the little girl inside Aiz’s mind was filled with proud determination. It was almost like she was a secret agent on a mission for her boss.
First, I should check out all of Bete’s usual hangouts…
Exiting the mansion, Aiz began her search. Recalling that Loki had suggested asking Lefiya for help if she needed it, Aiz sought out the elf to hear her advice.
“Ah, Lefiya, there you are,” said Aiz, spotting her in the street. “I was just wondering if…”
“L-l-listen to this, Ms. Aiz!!”
Lefiya came running up, a frightful look on her face.
“I heard from Elfie that Bete’s on a date with a girl from another familia!!” she cried.
“…?”
After a long, drawn-out silence, Aiz tilted her head.
“Lefiya…? Are you sure you’re feeling all right?” she asked, a bleak look in her stoic eyes.
“Please don’t look at me like that! I’m not crazy—I swear! Elfie said when she saw him on the north side, she was so shocked she couldn’t stand up straight!!”
Aiz turned and contented herself with the explanation that Lefiya must have been exhausted and surely not thinking straight. “So he’s in the north? Thanks, Lefiya,” she said, and began marching off, ignoring the elf girl’s cries of “I’m serious! Why don’t you believe me?!”
Bete on a date…Can’t imagine that.
The little girl in her mind, now wearing a black suit and tie, agreed, shaking her arms in denial, saying No, no, no!
Practically the first thing out of Bete’s mouth in any situation was “I hate weak women,” so it was difficult—nay, impossible—to imagine him fooling around with girls. Bete had been a part of Aiz’s familia long enough by now that she was sure of it. Aiz was so confident that even she made that declaration.
“If he really is on a date…” she said to herself. “I’ll stand on my head and eat my hat.”
Thirty minutes later, Aiz was begging for forgiveness, and the little girl inside her mind was doing precisely that.
