Prologue
“…Would you mind telling me again where you’re from?”
“Japan. Nippon, Nihon, Japan, please use the name that’s easiest for you to pronounce.”
“…My apologies, it’s just that I’ve never heard of a country named Japan…”
“I understand. It’s a tiny island country in the Far East.”
“I see… Now, I see on your résumé that you previously worked for an organization called the Kisaragi Corporation. Would you mind telling me a little bit about it?”
“I’m afraid I can’t. I’m bound by a nondisclosure agreement of sorts.”
“I…I see. Um…well, I notice that under the skills section of your résumé you list something called an Omnidirectional Vibrating Blade Bad Sword…? Um…what exactly is that?”
“It’s my Finisher.”
“…Finisher?”
“Yes, it’s a special technique I’ve used to finish off many a Hero.”
“…And when you say ‘Hero,’ you mean…?”
“The enemy.”
“I…see. I apologize for the constant stream of questions. So…would it be accurate to say that you’re something of a fighter?”
“Yep, that’s fine by me…”
“—I was a Combat Agent after all.”
