"Since you have killed him, you need to take his place. If you don't make up for the loss that you have caused, then things will get troublesome."
There was no friendship between the people of this group. They were just like coworkers that were working for the same person.
Even if they killed Karyk in revenge, it wasn't going to change anything. Instead, they might also suffer additional loss of life during the process. It was much better to make Karyk join their group, letting him take the place of the person that died. Based on his stealth abilities, he didn't seem like a bad choice either. Karyk had thought that the people were going to attack him right away. He didn't expect them to be so calm. They were more scared of their leader, than they cared about the others. "Shouldn't you tell me about the person that you were talking about? If I need to join the team, I should at least know the leader." Karyk tossed aside the corpse of the man. He could see an easier route of getting his answers, which was better than devouring the man and going through his memories. Already his memories were in a mess with unfamiliar voices appearing in his head. If possible, he didn't want to gather more waste. That's why he didn't devour everyone that he had caught. "It is as you heard. The leader is a really frightening person. So you better hope that you don't offend him with your little acts of ignorance." n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
He walked over to the corpse of his colleague. He took off the storage ring from the man's finger and tossed it to Karyk, pointing towards the crystal near Karyk's feet. "Start gathering the crystals in the storage ring. Along the way, I will tell you everything that you need to know to survive in this cruel place.'
"We have to thank that man for this. Although most of the people in the initial group had died at the hands of Aetherians, he is the one person from the first batch to survive and hold the fort."
"If it wasn't for him, all of us would have been dead as well."
Karyk was slightly curious if that man was in the Inner Region. He hadn't found anyone particularly worthy of his attention when he was in the city. In the outer region, he had already taken out the remaining survivors, leaving only this group. Only the inner region was left to be checked, which was being guarded by proper Aetherian Beasts. He was also slightly intrigued. If the person was actually related to the Lord of Time, his bloodline was going to be really useful. These people were the ones that could lead him to that person, making it easier on him. "I heard that there have been a few people who managed to leave this place. Why didn't that man leave? Does he like this place so much?" he asked the man. He understood why the existence of this city wasn't so well known. It was probably a secret kept by the major clans. Still, the existence of that man was an outlier. "He is looking for something at this place. I don't understand much either. I have a rough guess that it has something to do with the origin of Aetherians. However, he is probably the only person who knows what they want."
'He is looking for Aether as well? Is Aether even in this world in the first place?' Karyk frowned. Even the Aetherians didn't know about the whereabouts of that thing after all. Did that man know? In that case, he needed to find that person even more.
