Vol.1 Chapter 4 Part 3
‘Olga’ was an intelligence organization that was active in this Empire’s capital. It was also the powerful ruler of the city’s underground network. They never did business with the nobility. Laying low and hiding their existence was how they survived.
“Since when?”
The man’s cold reaction embarrassed Evita. She had let him see her beautiful face as a strategic move. Whenever she had revealed herself to a man, it had never failed.
‘This bastard, is he impotent?’
Evita pouted her red lips before smiling even brighter.
“It looks like you’re surprised to find out that the master of Olga is a woman. That’s understandable since it isn’t well known…”
Bang! Kuhn put the black sword that had been on his hip on top of the table.
“If I unsheathe this, you’re dead. Now, where did that blue-beard go?”
Evita’s eyes wavered. All the laughter left her face.
“...So you knew my adoptive father.”
Her father hadn’t told her about this. Evita grumbled and bit her lip.
“My adoptive father passed away. I took his place as the master of Olga.”
“If you are truly his successor, then you should have a token identifying you as such.”
“How do you know about that?!”
“The token.”
“...What if I don’t have it?”
Kuhn silently grabbed his sword.
“Does this mean that you plan to avenge my father?”
“I don’t need to know how that blue-beard died. I only came here to meet Olga’s master. If you aren’t the true successor, then that means you’re an imposter. Liars tend to be backstabbers.”
Evita flinched as Kuhn unsheathed his sword halfway. The leader of Kaligo's black sword. She had heard of the evil reputation of that sword many times.
"You're quite impatient!"
Evita pulled something off her neck and tossed it to Kuhn. He caught the small stone. The mysterious gemstone gave off a rainbow light. After studying it, Kuhn tossed it back to her. Evita clasped the stone carefully in her fist and grumbled.
"Consider yourself honored. After I received it from my father, you're the first person to have touched this stone."
"That used to belong to my father."
"What did you say?"
"Did you bring me the information you wanted to sell to me?"
Evita wanted to ask him more about what he had just said. However, the black-haired man sitting across from her didn't seem like the type to obediently answer her questions.
As someone who survived by selling information, she knew that there was no way she could receive that information for free. However, she wasn’t in a position to give him money for this information. Olga’s funds had run dry.
Evita was sad. They used to be so successful. How did it become like this?
‘My curiosity isn’t important right now.’
She got up and pounded on the wall with the palm of her hand. Finding a mark on the wall, she began to tap it with her fingertip. She was tapping the password on the wall.
“Please wait a moment. Information is our bread and butter, so we have no choice but to take precautions. If you would like to continue to do business with us, you’re going to need to be patient.”
Evita was currently criticizing Russ for mishandling one of her men.
The place they were first told to meet was close to this building. The old man had purposely taken them in a roundabout way. While they were walking around uselessly, another member of the organization had run over to Evita and ed the situation. This was a procedure they always went through whenever they met with a client.
“You don’t know how to run a business. Are you sure you were properly taught by your adoptive father?”
“That is quite uncalled for.”
“You need to understand who you’re criticizing. Aren’t you the one who called me over here because you said that you would only do business with me in person?”
Unable to answer, Evita kept her mouth shut. She had a few clients who were upset when she made them wait. If this happened, she cut ties with them.
They had never encountered a client that had endangered the lives one of their members like Russ had done. Still, she brought the two men here to meet with them. They had broken one of their most important rules.
But there was nothing she could do. The disadvantaged side in this deal was not the two men who came here to buy the information. It was Olga.
One man’s trash was another man’s treasure. Gathering information was easier than finding a client to sell it to.
There were barely any decent people who searched for information underground. There were only a few that would actually reward them handsomely for finding them legitimate information. The man sitting in front of her was one of them.
“I see. That was our mistake.”
Evita surrendered this war of words and obediently acknowledged her mistake.
“I just wanted to make sure it was you…”
Having heard her mutter, Kuhn looked at her. As their eyes met, Evita flinched.
“I didn’t mean to say that out loud… Please don’t mind me.”
Kuhn tilted his head and smirked.
“Isn’t it too late to be checking now? Do you doubt that I am the leader of the Kaligo?”
“I’m not doubting you.”
Evita was taken aback by her own mistake. She flushed and made up an excuse.
“You just look different than what I imagined. That’s all.”
This was the first time she had met the leader of the Kaligo. However, she already knew what he had looked like because she had managed to get her hands on a portrait of him with much difficulty. But he looked different somehow. He physically looked the same as his portrait, but he gave off a different aura.
