Vol.2 Chapter 11 Part 3

Dian happily greeted Sienna. He must have been surprised at her sudden call, but his expression didn't show any of it.

"Did you return from your territory inspection? You unexpectedly have a knack for surprising people, Silver King."

"Instead of hearing something a hundred times, it's better to just go and see it with your own eyes."

"So how do you feel now that you've seen it with your own eyes? Was it a valuable experience for you?"

"Various incidents occurred."

"While I am very curious about them, I doubt someone as busy as yourself came all the way here to tell me stories about your travels. What brings you here?"

The Iron King stood a respectable distance away from her. Sienna glanced at his attendants and her ladies-in-waiting before she spoke.

"I request to speak to you in private."

Dian's grin turned stiff. Their eyes met in silence.

Dian scoffed.

"It seems that the Silver King knows my weakness very well. I cannot overcome my curiosity."

Dian waved his hand at his attendants. Everyone left, and now only the two of them remained in the sitting room.

"Please speak."

"I need your help."

"My help?"

"Yes."

Sienna didn't plan on wasting any time with useless pleasantries. She took out a bundle of documents from the envelope she had brought with her and handed them to Dian. She had picked out the important documents in Levan's report and brought them with her.

Dian's eyes quickly moved over the papers. When he finished reading the final page, Sienna spoke up.

"As you can see, my chief lady-in-waiting is in trouble."

"..."

"Can you help her?"

Dian went back to the first page and reread the documents carefully. He didn't say anything for a long time. His head tilted and bobbed up and down as if he were deep in thought. Sienna waited.

"It wouldn't be difficult to protect them from the interest rates. However, this isn't what you want to ask of me, is it?

"No, it's not."

Tap, Dian flicked his fingertip against the documents.

"You're asking me to return everything back to the way it was before, is that right?"

"That is correct."

"..."

"This is a political maneuver involving a lot of people who put in a lot of effort. I can't believe they would go this far to target someone. How awful."

'Now that I look closer... they look alike.'

When Dian wasn't smiling, he looked like a different person. Dian's serious face looked alarmingly similar to the Emperor's. They looked so alike, so she was surprised that she only realized it now. Since he was his son, of course they looked a like. But it still felt strange.

'Is that why he always smiled? Because he wanted to hide their similar looks?'

"This situation is like a running horse. Only the person riding it can stop it. The person who tries to forcefully grab the reins will probably be killed or get hurt."

Is there a reason why I must risk such danger to help the countess? Sienna understood the hidden meaning behind his words.

"Silver King, I'm sorry to say this, but..."

"I understand."

Sienna spoke calmly.

"So you're saying that the person who started this is the only one who can end it."

Dian nodded.

"I will be the one who ends it. Please help me."

Sienna revealed the true reason why she came to meet Dian.

She expected him to reject her first request. However, she hadn't brought it up just to test him. If she planned on testing him like this, she wouldn't have come here in the first place. She would have been fine if Dian could fix this problem for her.

"How can I help?"

"Regarding Duke Rimone or the Red King... I'm sure you know one or two of their weaknesses."

Dian was conflicted. He knew that he should feign indifference, but he couldn't contain his curiosity.

"And?"

"That's what I need."

"You want me to tell you?"

"Yes."

Dian tilted his head.

"Why should I? I'd be losing my advantage."

"I want to make a deal with you."

"A deal... That changes things. What would you give me?"

"Anything you'd want from me."

"What do you think I will demand?"

"Anything is fine."

Dian sighed. Should he give some advice to this half-sister of his who didn't know how terrifying the world could be?

If she came across a person with bad intentions, it would be catastrophic. Dian didn't enjoy finding such a weakness in Sienna.

"Silver King, you cannot make a deal by being so one-sided."

"I don't know the value of whatever it is you have. I don't know what I would have to pay in order to make this exchange. I understand that this would require a lot of cooperation, but I don't have a lot of time. The more I drag this on, the more the countess suffers. You're not the one in a hurry, Iron King. I am. So it's obvious that I will be at a disadvantage in this deal no matter what."

'Wow, this princess is quite smart.'

How could she acknowledged the poor position she was in without being cunning or overly servile? Dian was in awe.

"Why are you going this far for your chief lady-in-waiting, Silver King?"

Sienna's eyes trembled.

"The countess... is a precious person to me."

After she said these words, it became more real to her. Something warm surged inside her chest. She wanted to protect the countess. That's all Sienna wanted.

"I promise you with the honor of the Silver King. I won't let you suffer any loss, Iron King."

Dian stood up and walked away.

Sienna's shoulders drooped.

'Is that a no?'

Her vision went dark. To think that she couldn't even protect one person close to her. She found her powerless self to be so pathetic.

Suddenly, someone placed an envelope before her eyes. She raised her head to see Dian holding the envelope in front of her.

"I don't trust in something like honor. I've heard many lies where people have sworn by their very lives."

Dian smiled.

"But I'll try trusting my younger sister who asked such a difficult favor in order to protect someone precious to her."

Sienna dazedly accepted the envelope.

"This should be enough to use as a bargaining chip for what you want, Silver King."

The envelope held the documents regarding the death of Duke Rimone that Kuhn had given Dian before he left for the desert.

Now that she obtained what she wanted, Sienna didn't know what to do. She needed to thank him, but her lips wouldn't move. One word continued to echo in her ears.

Sister...? She felt her face flush and a tickling sensation inside her chest.

"You must hurry. You need to help your chief lady-in-waiting as soon as possible."

"The payment..."

"We'll discuss that later. I will need some time to calculate what I will need from you, Silver King. Prepare yourself. You'll have to pay a hefty price."

Dian had a mischievous look on his face as he warned her.

Sienna couldn't even properly thank him. Her throat had closed up. She merely gave him a slight nod as she bid him goodbye. She walked over to the door and paused. She turned around and walked back to Dian.

"I apologize for all the things my mother has done to you, Iron King."

Dian's eyes widened.

"I didn't know. I understand that this isn't an excuse, but I truly didn't know what my mother had done to you, Iron King."

As she said this, the words her future self had said in her dream rang in her ears.

?I didn't know. I didn't know what had happened to you. I didn't realize that it wasn't rage but sadness and suffering. I know it's no use saying this now, but Your Imperial Majesty... I really didn't... I didn't know what my mother had done to you.?

Her future self wouldn't have wanted to say these words to herself in front of a dead person's portrait. She would have wanted to directly tell the living, breathing person instead.

"...I also know... that you didn't know. There's no need for you to apologize to me, Silver King."

"I'm not looking for forgiveness. But I cannot say that I didn't play a part in the reason why my mother made you suffer, Iron King."

Sienna smiled faintly at him.

After Sienna left, Dian felt as if his soul had left his body. When he came to, it felt as if he had awoken from a long dream. He laughed in disbelief.

"This puts me in a difficult situation. She's made me lose my will to fight even before we've started the battle."

However, his grinning face didn't seem troubled at all.
