The person before An Hun right now was clearly not the Shi Tian from his memories.
What had happened to Shi Tian?
Why did he seem like a completely different person?
Moreover, the way Shi Tian looked at him was filled with an unfamiliar coldness, as if he didn’t recognize him at all.
There was no reason why only he would find Shi Tian familiar, yet Shi Tian would not have even the slightest impression of him.
Long Yi snatched his mask back and put it on, then threw another punch.
An Hun could no longer afford to take his blows head-on. Before knowing this was Shi Tian, taking a few punches didn’t matter. But now that he knew, he dared not endure them recklessly.
He swiftly dodged, his brows furrowing as he looked at Long Yi. “Are you insane? It’s me!”
Gu Jiao let out a strange hum. From the moment Long Yi and An Hun started fighting, she was almost certain that Long Yi was none other than An Hun’s only rival—Shi Tian.
But the way An Hun spoke was odd. He sounded as if he knew Long Yi, and Long Yi should have recognized him as well.
Had Long Yi forgotten everything from the past?
Was that why he didn’t recognize An Hun?
Gu Jiao observed An Hun, who was focused entirely on defense, and murmured, “An Hun’s morale seems to have taken a nosedive… Looks like he’s been beaten up by Shi Tian more than a few times in the past.”
Indeed, the moment An Hun realized the opponent was Shi Tian, there was an instant of panic. It was a deeply ingrained fear, the kind that could only be beaten into someone after taking a hundred, maybe even a thousand thrashings.
But there was an old saying, ‘the present is not the past.’
Shi Tian was no longer the same Shi Tian from twenty years ago, just as An Hun was no longer the same An Hun from back then.
For the past twenty years, An Hun had never once slacked in his training. In contrast, Shi Tian seemed to have forgotten even his former techniques. His killing aura had diminished significantly, and his strength had weakened considerably.
That thought flickered through An Hun’s mind, and he gradually regained his composure.
At first, he had held back out of curiosity. Then, once he realized who he was facing, fear had restrained his movements. But now that he had come to terms with everything, Shi Tian no longer seemed so terrifying.
No matter what had happened to Shi Tian, the truth remained; he was no longer a match for An Hun!
An Hun landed on the tiles of a rooftop, his gaze cold as he looked down at Long Yi in the alley below. “This isn’t the fight I wanted. Defeating you as you are now won’t bring me any satisfaction. But since you insist on protecting that brat and making an enemy of me, don’t blame me for taking advantage of your weakness! Prepare to die, Shi Tian—”
Shi Tian?
Long Yi’s mind suddenly buzzed.
For a split second, his eyes were filled with confusion.
“Long Yi! Watch out!”
Gu Jiao’s voice rang out in warning!
But it was too late; An Hun’s palm attack struck Long Yi’s chest with full force.
Long Yi was sent flying like a sandbag thrown into the air. He crashed heavily onto the ground, skidding all the way to the base of a wall before slamming into it with such force that he left a gaping hole in the solid stone.
An Hun leaped forward, landing right in front of Long Yi. He grabbed him from the rubble and tossed him to the ground with a kick.
“Shi Tian, without your killing intent, you’re pitifully weak!”
With those words, he raised his foot and aimed another kick at Long Yi.
But Long Yi only stared blankly at the sky, making no move to evade.
Gu Jiao frowned. “This is bad. Long Yi heard the name Shi Tian… and now he’s completely frozen.”
She quickly pulled out a small mechanical contraption crafted by Gu Xiaoshun and hurled it forcefully at An Hun!
Gu Xiaoshun had remarkable talent. Though his device wasn’t as deadly as the ones made by Master Lu, it still managed to graze An Hun’s neck, leaving a shallow wound.
A spray of blood splattered into the air, the thick scent of iron filling An Hun’s nose.
He lowered his foot that had been about to stomp on Long Yi and turned his gaze coldly toward Gu Jiao. “Brat, if you’re so eager to die, I’ll grant your wish!”
Gu Jiao blinked at An Hun, who was now fully focused on her. “Uh… That’s really not necessary.”
An Hun pushed his qinggong to the limit, his black robes billowing violently in the night wind.
With a single step, he shot forward, about to leap past Long Yi’s sword and scabbard embedded in the ground. Suddenly, an overwhelming aura rushed toward him from behind!
His brow twitched, and he instinctively turned his head, only to see that Long Yi, who should have been beaten into complete submission, was standing up completely unharmed.
Long Yi moved so fast that he was almost nothing but a blur. In the blink of an eye, he had already surpassed An Hun and reached Gu Jiao’s side before him.
Those who cross this boundary—die!
Long Yi grabbed An Hun by the throat, lifting him high into the air before mercilessly slamming him to the ground!
A sickening crack echoed through the air as An Hun’s bones fractured, and his internal organs took heavy damage. He spat out a mouthful of blood on the spot!
This was impossible…
Impossible!
Shi Tian had clearly lost his killing intent, so why was he still no match for him?!
He had forgotten his instincts for slaughter, but in their place, he had gained the strength to protect.
And so, after twenty years, their long-overdue reunion ended in An Hun’s crushing defeat. Yet, killing An Hun would not be so easy.
The only one capable of killing An Hun was the Shi Tian who knew nothing but the way of slaughter.
Because only before that Shi Tian would An Hun reveal a fatal weakness!
“Shi Tian, today, I’ve lost. But I will not always lose to you. We will meet again!”
Clutching his aching chest, An Hun threw a black gunpowder ball toward Long Yi. Using the thick smoke from the explosion as cover, he vanished into the night with a flash of his qinggong.
Gu Jiao rubbed her chin. “So he had gunpowder balls too. No wonder he knew to avoid them. But his gunpowder balls are a little different from mine… His are more like smoke bombs. I should make a few like that for myself.”
“Long Yi.” Gu Jiao dismounted. Only when her feet touched the ground did she realize that her right ankle, which she had twisted earlier, had gone completely numb. Balancing on her left foot, she hopped over to Long Yi and said, “Let me check if you’re injured.”
Long Yi had sustained some minor scrapes and bruises, but no internal injuries.
Gu Jiao said, “I didn’t bring my first aid kit. I’ll clean up your wounds when we get back.”
Long Yi’s gaze fell on her foot.
She curled her lips into a slight smile. “It’s numb.”
Long Yi nodded, bent down, and scooped her up without warning.
Gu Jiao: “……”
……
Gu Jiao decided to retrace her steps and find Gu Changqing and Ye Qing.
Hopefully, they were all right.
Dangling upside down, swaying back and forth, Gu Jiao expressionlessly said, “I want to ride a horse. Being carried like this is making me dizzy.”
What Long Yi heard was: blah blah blah horse, blah blah is making me dizzy.
—And so, Gu Jiao was carried the entire way.
By the time Gu Jiao found Gu Changqing, he had already collapsed unconscious.

In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.
When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.
The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.
From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.
***
Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.
After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"
Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"
Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”
Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
