Chapter 8


As Yukio explained more about the zombies and some of their abilities, Izumi walked into our conversation .

I wasn't sure what to think of Izumi . She was by far in comparison to abilities, the weakest . If it wasn't for Jax protecting her during the beginning, she might've already died . Forever fated to become a corpse that roamed the halls of the school .

Perhaps she could exchange for an ability that would allow her to access more power during missions?

My thoughts faded away as we listened to Izumi asking Yukio questions . He started explaining once again, what he told us, to her . How God's dimensions worked and the type of mission worlds he's been through .

As our shift ended, Takashi and Kohta came out to start theirs, shifting their focus to paying attention to the surroundings of the apartment complex .

As Haven was about to take his leave as well, Takashi called out to him, saying that he wanted to talk .

Haven: What's up?

Takashi: I have some questions I need to ask . I'm not going to waste time on formalities and the like, so I'll just go straight to it . Haven . . . . who are you, really?

Haven: . . . What . . . do you mean?

Takashi: That man over there, Yukio . What he can do is beyond human limits . Saeko told me what he's capable of . For crying out loud, he jumped into a horde of RUNNERS! Not regular zombies . Runners . The ones that almost killed us with just a single one of them .

Haven: . . .



Takashi: You guys seem close to him somehow and . . . the only person I can ask among the four of you is you . You saved my life, Hisashi's and even Rei's multiple times . We've been through death together, so . . . .

Haven: Sigh . I understand .

Haven then lean't against the balcony railing, looking up at the stars in the sky .

Haven: You should know by now . . . these zombies . . . corpses that rise when they die . . . science can't exactly explain it . You should even realize it by now, that even a virus this strong isn't capable of developing just overnight .

[Haven, What're you doing? We need to avoid the spoilers!]

Haven: (Relax . Im not spoiling anything . ) These things, just aren't possible .

Takashi: What're you trying to say?

Haven: There are certain things . . . which I can't explain to you . Just know, the world you think you knew, its not the same place as it was three or four days ago . You've stepped into a new age, Takashi . One that'll be tough . It'll be hard for you to adapt but you all will .

Takashi: . . .

Haven: I'm sorry Takashi . Sooner or later . . . you'll understand, I guess .



Takashi: Haven . . . heh, for a second you almost made it sound like you're not a part of this .

Haven: . . . Notify if the situation changes . Keep your eyes sharp, as well, Kohta .

Kohta: Uh . . . sure!

With those final words of parting, Haven went back inside . I could understand their feelings . They were scared of what's to come . In these weird days where there was only death and despair following them everywhere they went, then suddenly witnessing something abnormally stronger and more powerful than you'd care to imagine?

It would most certainly destroy your outlook of the world .

But it was necessary .

Their mindsets were already on the path of changing . It was only a matter of time before they were going to embrace this new world as their home .

Besides, as important as the main characters are, Haven and I have a much more important goal to reach .

Saving Alice Maresato .

Unfortunately . . . if I'm right, we're about to get into a whole lot of trouble .

Haven: Jax, Izumi, get ready . The part of the plot is starting .

Izumi: Wait, what?

Jax: Huh? I thought that it would be over by now . They seem happy to stay in here and rest right?

Haven: Yes . They are happy to rest but any moment now, a girl's about to be in trouble . Kohta's and Takashi are going to attempt a rescue on her after telling the others .

Izumi: A little girl? She isn't listed as a main character though .

Before Haven could answer a gunshot resounded from behind them . The plot was going ahead once again .

Jax: Let me guess, it's starting?

Haven: HAHA, yep! Let's go . You wanted us to work as a team right? This will be our first time working together then . You ready?

Jax: You're a bastard . You know that right?

Haven: (Ignoring Jax) Let's go! Izumi, notify the others .

Izumi: (glaring)What am I, your subordinate? Hmph!

Haven: Er . . . Please?

Izumi: . . . Fine .

A moment later, Takashi rushed out of the balcony to explain the situation to us . A girl's father, he passed away while trying to bring her into safety . The house that they tried to gain access to, when opening the door, they stabbed the girl's father, killing him in the process .

Kohta who noticed what had happened, killed off off the zombies closest to girl, effectively saving her life .

As Takashi explained the situation, Yukio rushed out from below the stairs slightly in panic . He shouted at us to get ready .

Curious, Haven asked why he was in such a hurry .
