77. Student Activities 5 – Going to the Principal’s Office
“So, after school, I’d like you to come with me to the principal’s office… Is that okay with everyone?”
I was speaking to Alan, Miss Charlotte, and Ritz (who were always together in class) about the signing event. Ultimately there were only four people in the signing event, including me. I wanted to get one from Sir Cain, too, but whenever I saw him that Sleazy guy was always around. The number of signatures was low, but three of them were wizards, so maybe it will be OK. It would be more impressive if all the signers went to the principal’s office, and today I needed to use everything I’ve got.
“Oh, Ryou, are you going to present that petition from before? Alright, we’ll come with you.” Alan said, and Ritz and Charlotte agreed. I didn’t even have to ask! How helpful!
“Oh? Chicky, are you going to the principal’s? Is it the petition? Will you be okay without me?”
“See you after school, then. Thank you, everyone.”
I said, but I put my hands together in a cute pleading gesture. All right, I’m sure we’ll be able to have a good conversation with the principal after school!
“Chicky, Chicky! How mean, you’re ignoring me.”
There have been random noises around for a while now, but I haven’t paid them any attention. I didn’t care about them at all. But kind-hearted Charlotte sitting next to me seemed worried, looking at that person.
“R-Ryou, Sir Henry has been trying to talk to you for a while… you know?” Charlotte said into my ear anxiously.
Yeah, I know. I know… Ah, it’s no use. Ignoring him… Even if I ignore him, he keeps talking to me without a care.
“Sir Henry, greetings. I’m sorry, I didn’t notice you until now.”
“Ha ha, it’s fine. But aren’t you gonna be casual like before and call me Sleazy?”
The pervert who likes being called “Sleazy” has a cheerful face. This is bad, I’m the type of person who backs down if someone puts up a strong front.
“Sir Henry, what kind of business do you have with Ryou all the time!” Alan yelled.
It’s true, since my farm date with Sleazy, he’s been all over me. Often he’ll sit near me like this.
“Nothing in particular. I just want to talk to her. I like her.”
Hey, shut up! Don’t say anything weird, you perverted bastard!
“Slea-… Sir Henry. Would you please stop using such strange language?”
I’m no longer fooled by the way this slender blond pretends to be all handsome and shiny. I know you’re always appending the words “(*as livestock)” to your lines!
“Sir Henry… You like Ryou? No way…”
Alan looked completely dumbfounded at this. Hey, minion, aren’t you a little too surprised? I do actually pay attention to my appearance, so it’s not that strange that I’m popular! Well, in reality, Henry doesn’t actually like me. It’s just that he likes livestock.
What? Nobody of the opposite sex has ever said they like me. Claude was totally like, not really… wait, am I not popular? Is my girl power too low? B-But I’m still a child, it’ll start soon!
After Sleazy made such an insinuating remark that my rude minion made a face like, “There’s no way my boss is that popular!” I managed to compose myself.
Ugh, I hate this. If this keeps on happening… I’m gonna get a stomach ulcer from the stress!
After school, we all went to the principal’s room.
With a leather sofa, a large stone table, and a plush carpet, the room was impressive, befitting the chief of the academic world.
“I see, there are three signatures… All of whom are magicians…”
The principal nodded, looking over the petition again.
“By the way, didn’t you hear anything from Mr. Henry? I actually spoke to him as well,” he told me with a cheerful face.
His eyes seemed to say, “I’ve been doing my best, too!” I know, teacher. Because of that, I had to go on a farm date.
“Sir Henry and I don’t get along… Unfortunately.”
“Oh, is that so… Mr. Henry is a good-hearted student, so I thought he’d help out… That’s too bad.” Alright, I’ll accept this petition for now.”
A good-hearted student… Yeah, Sleazy does look good on the outside. For the time being, he kept the documents. I suppose the rest is up to the king? However, the principal’s reaction wasn’t very good… Were there not enough people after all?
—Knock knock.
“It’s me. I’m coming in.”
I heard a loud voice and the principal’s door opened. It was a tall man who parted his black hair to one side. I’ve seen him before. This is the magic teacher and vice-principal.
“Professor Thomas! It’s good to see you!”
The principal happily stood and urged the vice principal to sit next to him.
“Actually, there’s something I want to you to see.”
“Me? And these students are… Oh? Aren’t you Mr. Ritz?”
The vice-principal seemed a little troublesome, but as soon as he saw Ritz he got excited. I wonder what’s going on. He might be an opponent here to mess with us… Ritz seems more like the cute, naïve type.
“I’m surprised to see Mr. Ritz in the principal’s office, what’s going on?”
“Professor Thomas, sorry to bother you. Actually, we had a request for the principal…”
Ritz and the vice-principal started talking together. Unlike Alan, Ritz has common sense and won’t say anything weird, so it should be okay… He just needs to be careful in the clutches of an opponent. While I was watching the conversation between Ritz and the vice-principal, Alan, sitting next to me, whispered in my ear.
“Vice-principal Thomas is our magic class teacher. And since his best element is fire, he’s very lenient to Ritz and the other students who are good with fire. Even though fire magic isn’t very useful.”
Ah, that’s right, when Ritz and I went to the market together last year, he said he was good at fire magic. But fire magic is unpopular or something because it can’t be used without embers, so it’s not easy to use. I wonder if that teacher being good at an unpopular element like fire magic is the reason he favors students in the same situation.
“But, are the matters in this petition… necessary? They seem trivial…”
Said the teacher with the neatly-parted hair, who was looking over the petition after hearing Ritz’s explanation. H-how rude! It is necessary! To me! I need it! Although I was a little irritated, I decided I would explain it to the vice-principal.
“As an example, if you reduce the number of magic history lessons, that time can be spent on other lessons. At the Mana Drain event, we were required to hike a lot, but we didn’t have the physical strength. I think that a physical education class is needed, rather than a magic history class. In addition, if the library is a little more open, more people will use it and the quality of students as a whole will improve.”
‘Hmmf,’ the neatly-parted Professor Thomas snorted, and returned the petition to the principal.
“Well, this has nothing to do with me. Also, I have something important to discuss with the principal right now. Sorry, but would you please make your way out?”
What’s up with this teacher! What a difference from the way he talked to Ritz! How annoying! Though I was a little worked up, we didn’t have a reason to resist, so we left the principal’s office quietly.
As we left, he said to Ritz, “Ritz, keep doing your best. Let’s stir up our fire magic,” and gave him a gentle hit on the shoulder.
F-favoritism isn’t right!
