After that incident, Noel actually continued everything they were doing as though nothing happened.
He sent forth reinforcement from Golden Dawn City to make sure they strengthened the area.
"Are you going to continue like this?" Layla asked.
"Yeah. The situation doesn't look good. In fact, are you fine? You are currently being targeted by them." Noel furrowed his eyebrows.
"I don't know. However, I know one thing. It seems I have to become stronger. I'm thinking about going back sooner or later and focusing on becoming a spirit transcendence expert." Layla shook her head helplessly.
"I see." Noel sighed. "The situation has truly become dangerous. But for now, I don't think they will attack you for the time being."
"Hoh? Why do you say that?"
Noel paused for a moment, thinking about his conversation with Ardagan last night.
"Anyway, I don't think I will be attacked by the Supreme Devil for the time being. As long as that curse exists, the Supreme Devil can't attack me easily. I don't know what kind of curse it is, but it should be something related to using his energy."
[That's probably it.]
"Yes. So, that attack earlier might just be a greeting to test both my reaction speed and my current strength. Of course, if he was lucky, he could have killed Layla.
"But with that curse still going on, he couldn't attack me. I'm assuming he's going to find a way to break that curse as quickly as possible before I could become a spirit king.
"In other words, I think he will send the third prince after me. The third prince has already reached the spirit transcendence stage. I don't know how he did it, but it shouldn't be because of the demons. Still, it should be related to the Supreme Devil Organization.
"The Supreme Devil Organization might use the third prince to keep me busy. I will have to ask Commander Oscar to watch out for the Devil Saint. He's the most annoying."
[Are you going to use the information from Laufey to strike their base?]
"No. If I attack them right now, it might look like I'm panicking. On the other hand, if I keep quiet for the time being, they will think their bases haven't been found out yet.
"When the perfect time comes, I will strike them and weaken them."
[In that case, what are you planning to do now?]
"I will complete the mission first and get the territorial buff. Once it's done, I'm going back. From that fight, I can feel the difference between his and my strength. I don't know how he was able to overpower me, but it should be similar to the king path. As long as I figured it out and adjusted it according to what I knew about the spirits, it should be fine."
[I understand. I will help you as much as I can.]
"Yes. We have to be aware that there might be traitors hiding among us as well… ones that can't be seen through the system. Either way, it's fine for the time being." Noel let out a long sigh.
…
After recalling that conversation, Noel said, "I could feel his strength. His energy was lower than mine, but somehow he overpowered me. There must be a secret and the price for that was significant. He should be recovering from his injury and tried to keep me as busy as possible.
"For now, how about going with me to finish three charity projects? It should last long enough until we make sure they are not coming anymore. Well, I might end up recruiting even more people to increase the efficiency."
Layla looked down, falling into deep thought. "That doesn't sound bad. There's something I'd like to ask."
"Yes?"
"If we're done with this project, do you mind if I bring your knight with me? What was her name again…? Incetta?"
"Incetta? What do you mean? Are you trying to poach my person?" Noel squinted his eyes.
"No, no. You misunderstand. I can see it. She is aiming to become a spirit transcendence as well, right? I'm thinking about going together with him so that both of us can become a spirit transcendence together."
"!!!" Noel looked a bit surprised by the suggestion. Vivi might be delighted to have someone who possessed the same spirit as Margaretha with her. Their purpose was the same anyway.
Noel couldn't help but recall the state of the Ardagan family at its peak a thousand years ago.
The Ardagan family had Alex at its helm as a spirit king, along with fourteen spirit transcendence rank experts, who were the ten commandants, his wife and brother-in-law, the head of the army, and his assistant.
On the other hand, he only had Rui and Incetta with him. Of course, he hoped Anna would become a spirit king alongside him, but even with Commander Oscar and Duke Lorelei, he only had four spirit transcendences.
He hoped for more spirit transcendences to fill up the rank.
Then again, he could probably ask for help from the Beast Kingdom. In the past, the Beast Kingdom had just been established, so they only had a single spirit transcendence, but this time, the Beast Kingdom had become the greatest kingdom with seven spirit transcendence rank experts.
Even then, he didn't really want to rely entirely on them.
Noel couldn't help but think, 'Should I ask Dimitri to become one as well? It's going to be hard, but we're close to demon territory. Although this land is dangerous, if there are multiple people forming a group…'
Noel looked at Layla, asking, "Will you be fine with only Incetta? Should I ask for someone else to accompany you?"
"Someone else? Who?"
"Dimitri."
"Oh!" Layla looked down, falling into deep thought. "I don't have any plans for the time being. However, having more people means we'll be safer. I don't think I will reject it. Besides, I'm asking for your help because none of the grandmasters in the Moon Temple are close to becoming a spirit transcendence rank expert."
Noel nodded. "For now, think about it carefully. I will ask them as well."
"Yes."
