SYNOPSIS OF PART I
Shortly before the fourth Squad Jam was announced, Karen got dragged along to one of her father’s work parties, where she met a man.
Fire Nishiyamada, who used his short stature as fuel for his rise in the business world, became smitten with Karen when she didn’t laugh at him. Through her father, he sent a request to initiate a romantic relationship with her and eventually get married.
Karen turned him down, thinking it was too soon, but through unknown means, he learned that she was playing GGO as the character named Llenn. He even went to the trouble of registering his own avatar, Fire, to meet her in-game—what a bother.
When Fire revealed his distaste for VR games and his intention to make her quit GGO once they started dating, Llenn was furious. She intended to reject him at once. But Pitohui, who was present at their meeting, cleverly goaded her into making an agreement: If they fought in SJ4 and she died before he did, she would admit defeat and go out with him.
Upon realizing the consequences of her action, Llenn was stunned. But Pitohui simply said, “You can play dumb and pretend it never happened.”
And then, SJ4 arrived.
Llenn was burning with excitement to finally have a real battle against her long-standing rivals, Team SHINC.
As usual, she grouped up with Pitohui, M, and Fukaziroh, with the one-time addition of Shirley and Clarence.
However, her elation at this dream team of balanced offense and defense was short-lived; Shirley and Clarence had only joined so they could skip the preliminary round. Llenn was crestfallen.
And in SJ4, there was a set of special rules: Monsters will appear if you remain in the same place for over five minutes. Shooting them will bring more of them. All ammo is fully replenished every thirty minutes as a way to balance out this challenge.
These rules were devised by the novelist sponsor—that creep. Everyone was pissed.
Team LPFM was given a disadvantageous starting position that set them up for a difficult fight.
They survived somehow, but then Shirley and Clarence split off, leaving them a team of four again.
Fifty minutes into the game, Llenn caught what was happening on the Satellite Scan.
A number of teams had joined together in an alliance. And among them was SHINC…
