Avian has been deemed incapable of completing their mission.
A woman was dancing the rumba in a Fend Commonwealth dance hall.
The elegant way her dress swayed in step with the song’s slow rhythm enthralled any and all who saw her. A double-digit number of pairs danced back and forth across the floor, but she commanded more attention than anyone else present. Her long, straight-necked body seemed almost made for dancing, and there was a curvaceous beauty to the way she moved it. At first glance, it appeared as though she was merely following her partner’s lead, but the more you looked, the more it seemed that the reverse was true and that she was using her allure to pull her partner’s strings.
“You’re in an awfully good mood today,” said her dance partner.
“Oh, I suppose,” she replied with a smile. “Something very nice just happened.”
“Did it, now?”
“Oh, yes. I got to swat away some flies that had been bothering me.”
When she smiled, her face looked like that of a teenage girl.
Actually, she might well have still been rather young.
Every so often, the world gave birth to a monster. And just as it had created the peerless spy that was Klaus, it had created another one in that very nation…
She grinned bewitchingly. “Tell me, do you know what the simplest way to destroy an organization is?”
“…What’s this about destroying things?” the man asked. “That seems rather uncouth.”
“I’ll give you a hint. It’s the same way that the greatest spy team in the world got laid low.”
“You know, you say the oddest things sometimes.”
“Oh, don’t worry about it. A lady’s secrets are best left unexplored.”
The music stopped.
The woman stepped away from the man and gave him a merry grin. “The answer is, betrayal from within. It can destroy legendary teams and up-and-comers alike.”
The man blinked at her in confusion, for he knew nothing. He had no idea who the woman he occasionally went ballroom dancing with truly was.
She was a spy for the Galgad Empire.
Her code name was Green Butterfly, and she was a member of the Serpent team.
With that, the curtain rose on a whole new spy game.
Eventually, news of Avian’s deaths reached the Din Republic, and they dispatched Lamplight, their team that specialized in Impossible Missions, to pick up where their compatriots had failed. The stage for the next act was going to be the land of tea, royalty, and fog: the Fend Commonwealth.
That was where Serpent’s prodigy child, Green Butterfly, was waiting for them.
For she had set a trap—a scheme, to kill the man who’d gotten in Serpent’s way time and again. Just as betrayal from within had felled Inferno, she intended to destroy Lamplight the same way. Eventually, she would decide on one of the girls as her target.
Once the world’s wheels began turning, there wasn’t a person alive who could grind them to a halt.
Soon, Lamplight was going to be faced with a cruel task.
Of the eight of them, they would need to find the person who’d fallen into Green Butterfly’s clutches—the girl who was going to betray Lamplight.
