When Joan's flames stopped, that was when we headed into the ruins.
Before leaving, all of the wyverns looked at us with worried looks as if they were telling us to come back as soon as possible.
Even the other wyverns had the same look that Joan gave me.
It really went to show just how close everyone had gotten to their wyverns during this time.
It also went to show how much humans and wyverns had gone through that such a deep relationship was developed between them. It really went to show that there was the possibility of creating a society for both humans and wyverns in the future.
Though that was certainly possible as long as Joan was with me.
Once we stepped into the ruins, there were torches that were brought out.
Even though this place had traces of sunlight coming through the holes that were in these ruins, it was far from being enough to light this place up.
So we had to bring out torches to see where we were going.
With these torches, we were able to make out the surroundings, but there wasn't much to see.
At the very least, it didn't seem like there was a trace of corruption energy in this place. At the very least, Joan's breath had worked and seemed to clear out the corruption energy in this area.
But it was hard to tell what was deeper in.
From the outside, one couldn't tell that this place actually occupied quite the deep area under the ground. It seemed that it spread out in all directions, which made it a very vast set of ruins.
There were also many different ways down as seen by all the stairs that were around us.
With how many different ways down there were, it was clear that this place should be quite the labyrinth.
That meant that this place was by no means easy to navigate.
So to find the Relic of Destruction…
But before that, it was important to figure something else out.
The corruption energy that we saw earlier coming from the entrance of the ruins wasn't fake. It was something that definitely couldn't be faked no matter how hard one tried.
Since that was the case, then that meant that there should be a source of this corruption energy. And the only source of corruption energy that could be in a place like this was naturally the Relic of Destruction.
That meant that logically speaking, we shouldn't have gotten rid of all that corruption energy by the entrance.
If that corruption energy was still there, perhaps we could have followed it to the source.
Perhaps we could have followed it to the Relic of Destruction.
"It seems that acting in haste does backfire sometimes." I couldn't help whispering to myself after realizing the situation.
Only it was too late to have regrets.
What was done was done, so the only thing left was to figure out how to find the Relic of Disaster.
Seeing that I wasn't saying anything as we looked around the area, the pope of the Solista Religion couldn't help asking, "Should we split up and look for the Relic of Destruction? I don't think that we'll be able to find much if we all remain together."
I quickly shook my head before saying, "There's no telling what dangers are lurking in this place, so we should remain together for now. Once we see what the situation deeper down is, then perhaps we can split up."
It was also at this moment that flames came from outside of the ruins.
The others panicked, but I didn't show a single trace of panic seeing these flames. Rather, there was even a bit of a bitter smile that appeared on my face when I saw these flames.
I didn't do anything as I let the flames sweep past me.
Standing in these flames, I could even see how they just didn't touch me at all. When the flames flowed past me, it was as if they were completely evading my body with the way that they just went right past me.
These were sacred flames, they were not normal wyvern flames.
They contained the divine energy of the gods, so the things that they could do couldn't be understood by humans.
Including how they would go past everything that wasn't related to the corruption energy.
The problem was that since these flames filled with divine energy completely purified the corruption energy, that meant that it erased all trails for us to follow. With the flames coming at this regular pace, it really didn't seem like the corruption energy would be able to restore itself to the point where we would be able to follow it.
That was unless we approached the source of the corruption energy where the corruption energy would become stronger.
It really was a miscalculation on my part…
So with this bitter smile, I moved towards one of the sets of stairs.
The two popes noticed this and quickly went in front of me as if they were leading the way, but really they were just making sure that I was safe with the holy knights and the priests.
When we came to this set of stairs, they looked at me as if they were confirming if this was the one.
I gave a nod without hesitation before moving forward towards it.
Since I moved forward, that meant that the rest of them also moved forward.
Though it seemed like they didn't understand why I chose this set of stairs.
As for the reason, I was most likely the only one that saw the phenomenon with Joan's flames.
When her flames appeared around us, they naturally flowed down the sets of stairs as well. But the way that they flowed down the sets of stairs was different from the way that it should have flowed down.
Rather, it seemed that more of the flames were gathered around the one that was in front of us.
