Once I had convinced Ann of my intentions, it seemed like she was finally willing to talk.

So of course the first thing that I asked was…

"How is he suppressing your power?"

I knew that the power that she wielded was an innate power, so unless it was being suppressed by something, it wasn’t as if she would be this weak. If it wasn’t that something was suppressing her power to create flames, she would have already burned that sly looking noble and his property down.

She never would have allowed him to lay a single finger on her, let alone make her his wife.

"It was a long time ago, but the short story is that my uncle was the one that introduced me to him. Before this, I was working as an adventurer, using my powers to take down monsters and clear commissions. After introducing me to him, he used these chains on me that locked up my powers, so I wasn’t able to do anything."

"Chains?" I asked in a surprised voice before revealing a look of thought.

Chains was too vague of a description for me to actually figure out what the sly looking noble had used on her.

There were many different items in the game world that were chains that could be used to suppress a person’s power. However, there were varying degrees of power to these chains, so there were different things that were needed to break these chains.

Without knowing what the name of the chains were, it would be hard for me to figure out how to break it.

Well, that was unless I used something completely overboard and that wasn’t what I wanted to do.

Ann revealed a look of thought for a bit as if she was trying to think of something before suddenly saying, "Chains of Misfid…I think that was what he called it."

I couldn’t help slightly knitting my brows when I heard this.

This definitely wasn’t a name that I was expecting to hear in a place like this.

After all, this was an item that most people wouldn’t know about since it was a very specialized item.

In the game, this was an item that was only available in the mid game and even then, it took a lot of effort just to get this thing. This definitely wasn’t something that a noble of a small kingdom would be able to get that easily.

"Are you sure about that?" I had to ask to make sure, but…

"I’m certain. Now that I think about it, he actually said it several times. It’s definitely the Chains of Misfid."

The confident tone that she said this in made me knit my brows even more.

After all, it didn’t seem like she was lying and it didn’t seem like she was mistaken. But if it was the Chains of Misfid, then that meant that there might be something else to deal with.

It was all because of where the Chains of Misfid came from in the first place.

The Chains of Misfid wasn’t that strong of an item in the first place, it was just a set of magic chains that would suppress the mana that a person had. It was made by a magician to suppress his wife since she was just too strong for him.

He created them so that he would be able to restrain his wife to make sure that she didn’t kill him.

But these chains became a misfortune for him when his wife found out about them.

In a fit of rage, she did the one thing that the Chains of Misfid were supposed to prevent and actually killed him on the spot.

After coming back to her senses, she completely lost herself in her grief and took her own life.

That was why instead of being known as the Chains of Misfid, it was more better known as the Chains of Misfortune.

But that wasn’t the important thing.

The important thing was that this was a magic item that had been created by a magician to suppress the mana of his wife who was also a magician. Since both parties involved in the creation of these Chains of Misfid were magicians, it was only natural that they would be linked to a country filled with magicians.

These Chains of Misfid were a product that could only be found in that special country filled with magicians.

These Chains of Misfid were from the Sorcery Empire.

I never would have thought that the noble from a small kingdom like this would actually have a connection to one of the four empires. At the same time, it would be close enough that he would even be able to get something like the Chains of Misfid from them.

Since these Chains of Misfid would suppress a magician’s mana which would turn them into a fatal item to use against magicians, it was strictly regulated by the Sorcery Empire.

Unless one had a close connection to the Sorcery Empire, it certainly wasn’t something that could be obtained that easily.

As expected of that sly looking noble, he really was someone that knew how to make connections…

So if I were to actually help Ann take her revenge and regain her freedom, there was the chance that I would be clashing with the Sorcery Empire. After all, to do this, I would have to take care of the sly looking noble who had a backing in the Sorcery Empire.

The biggest problem was that while I knew about the sly looking noble’s connection to the Sorcery Empire, I didn’t actually know how deeply he was connected to the Sorcery Empire.

There were many different factions in the Sorcery Empire and the worst case scenario was if he was connected to one of the Magic Towers.

After all, the ones that were behind the Magic Towers were the sages, the true rulers of the Sorcery Empire.

It seemed that if I wanted to do this, I would have to use some kind of trick…
