Afterword
First, I’d like to sincerely thank you for picking this book off the bookstore shelf when there were so many others to choose from, so—thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for reading Sasaki and Peeps.
This novel won an award at the 4th Kakuyomu Web Novel Contest, and eventually, MF Bunko J decided to make an actual book out of it.
MF Bunko J is the bunko label with a conspicuous green cover design.
Among those, I wondered why this book would be published in a larger format like their new literature.
The reason really comes down to how the story was constructed. Because I needed to have all the different worldviews and perspectives exist independently—the otherworld, psychics in modern Japan, the magical girl—this book ended up having a lot of text in it. It was very difficult fitting it all into the bunkobon format.
It was my editor, O-sama, and all the editors at MF Bunko J who were kind enough to tackle this problem head-on. They gave me the option of publishing this in tankobon format, in contrast to their usual bunkobon-format books. Despite being busy handling many hit works, they really went the extra mile, taking extra care with even the most minute details, and for that they have my utmost gratitude. Thanks to them, this book was able to go into the world in an even better form.
With regard to Volume 2: In addition to the content currently on Kakuyomu, the volume will be half original content. It’ll be pretty thick, amounting to two light novels. One novel’s worth will be completely new text. Its release date has already been determined, too—so please look for it on March 25.
Incidentally, since a tankobon-format book is bigger than one in bunkobon format, the cover illustration is just as impressive. I’d like to change the topic, then, to the real face of Sasaki and Peeps—the illustrations by Kantoku-sensei.
The cover is reminiscent of a big movie poster, transcendentally gorgeous and packed to the brim with information. While it is a single illustration, you can enjoy it as if you’re reading several panels of a manga. There are so many little tidbits packed in that I can’t get enough of it.
The insert illustrations are no exception. I’m on the edge of my seat waiting to see the ones for Volume 2 myself. Thank you so much for your amazing illustrations, Kantoku-sensei. From the bottom of my heart, I appreciate you devoting some of your busy schedule to this work.
On that note, to move on to acknowledgments, I would like to thank the editorial department at MF Bunko J to begin with—and also the marketing team, proofreaders, and designers. I know I’ve put more of a burden on you than for your usual bunkobon-format books. I deeply thank you all for your assistance with this work despite how busy you all are.
Finally, I thank everyone from bookstores across the country, internet-based booksellers, and everyone else related who is cheering me on with the same generosity as they did my previous work, Nishino. I will continue to do my best every day to meet your expectations.
I look forward to your support of MF Bunko J’s new book from Kakuyomu, Sasaki and Peeps, in the future.
(Buncololi)
