The rebellion plotted by Count Jorah Pendleton ended in failure. The count himself, mastermind of the scheme, was slain by Goz Ralphone, first among the empire’s Divine Generals. Thereby, the foundation for a secure reign by the newly ascended emperor, Vincent Volakia, was assured.
The count had no blood relatives, and so the Pendleton family name, which had endured for generations, was snuffed out. Just two months before his rebellion, the count had married a younger woman, but the annihilation of the family was completed when she committed suicide. Although still so young, the girl, beset by grief over her husband’s actions, took her own life.
That, at least, was the testimony of one Arakiya, who would later become one of the Nine Divine Generals of the Volakian Empire.
Thus, there were no fugitives. No one to threaten the swordwolf nation. The peace of the empire was secure.
No shadow would fall upon it. It would continue to carry on into the future.
