There was an issue the group noticed straight away, there were three bikes, and there were five of them.
Only two people could fit on bikes, it was assumed that Blackjack and Kim would be driving two of them. So one of them would have to drive the other on their own.
“I’ll do it,” Austin said as if he could read their mind and was already lifting his leg over until it was on the other side. “I ride these things as my daily. We don’t want you guys embarrassing yourselves before we even get there, so fair’s fair, right?”
Gary and Kai looked at each other and although they would have liked to ride the motorcycle themselves, they did think it was for the best.
Gary had gone on the back of Blackjack, while Kai moved and was ready to get on the back of Kim’s, just as he sat on the back and adjusted himself he heard her comment.
“Try not to touch me so much,” Kim said. “Your smell makes me sick.”
“The feeling’s mutual,” Kai answered. “And I have to say, that’s the first time I’ve heard a woman say that to me.”
Immediately, Kim started to twist the handle, revving the bike, and all three vehicles were ready as they went off in the distance.
They drove out of Slough and Gary looked back, hoping they could solve the situation.
‘The town has been through a lot. I don’t want it or its people to go through more. Let’s try our best to get this done,’ Gary thought.
The group traveled around thirty minutes out. They were on the highway for a short while before going off the regular trail and ended up going up the side of a mountain pass.
When they were around halfway up the pass, all three of the bikes had parked in a slot just off to the side.
There was a special gravel set up for vehicles to use, and there was already a large number of bikes that were there.
“I guess we’re the last ones to arrive?” Kai asked.
“Correct, which is just going to bring more attention on us,” Blackjack said. “All of you, put on the clothes that we gathered. This is considered a meeting of the Altered hunters, so you need to wear your uniform. I would explain to you when we wear the uniform and when we don’t, how we get access to equipment and such, but all of that is useless,” Blackjack stated.
“We will be infiltrating Ruin City tomorrow at night, and we will be going in our Altered uniform anyway, all at once to deliver this item. So you won’t have to switch between the Altered uniform and normal wear, so just keep everything on as much as possible, it will help with the disguises.”
There was a quick change from each of them, and even with the masks and similar uniforms they could all tell who each other were.
The front was a lightweight almost body armor, with a flexible fiber underneath. The black mask was a plain mask with slits and breathing space.
But the back of their head and hair was open and could be seen. So Gary’s current black hair was seen sticking out along with Kai’s blonde hair.
As for Austin, he was already larger and bigger anyway, so even without his other features they could recognize him.
Blackjack took the lead, jumping over a metal rail guard and started to descend down the side of the mountain into heavy forestry of trees.
It was dark out, but no one had trouble seeing, they weren’t even using the night feature of the mask, none of them were.
Eventually though smells could waft into all of their noses apart from Austin’s. They could tell there were people up ahead before even meeting them.
Then several lights could be seen set up in the forest, hung up high on the trees.
They had reached a base of some kind that had been set up in the woods. There were several tents, tables, and crates that were there.
There were even men in the same masks that looked to be playing and adjusting with several gadgets, while others were fighting against each other.
Either practicing their swordsmanship, or something like just learning how to use some long-ranged Anti-Altered equipment.
The way things were set up in groups, and organized, this was the first time Gary and the others were seeing something like this.
It wasn’t just any group, they were incredibly organized, and it almost felt like they were looking at a military organization, not a bunch of people who had randomly come together towards one goal.
When Blackjack walked ahead, he had his mask tilted to the side of his face, allowing everyone to see him.
The Altered hunters had turned their heads to look at them, and almost every single one of them were staring their way.
“It’s just like they said, we really have got all of their attention,” Austin whispered.
“Why do they look so grumpy? We’re just here to help, right, we’re on the same side, but they’re staring daggers into us,” Gary replied.
“Can’t you see?” Kai said. “The Altered hunters are an extremely organized group. At the end of the day, they are humans that have had to face against Altered superior beings to them. It’s a dangerous job, they follow rules, and do everything they can to not die, and now three guys like us are being brought on such an important mission. Of course they’re upset.”
In the center of the group, there were three individuals that were talking amongst each other, all of them had their black masks attached to the back of their head so their faces were visible.
One of the men who had a large goatee turned his head to look at those that had come over.
“Oh Blackjack, I thought you might have not come and something had happened just like last time!” The man stated. “But it seems you have appeared, and already it seems you have arrived like you’re in charge, bringing in these useless guests, right?”
The man said smiling, staring right ahead at Gary, Kai, and Austin.
