Lately, Gary felt like he was hearing a lot of things he didn’t like. Or decisions which he didn’t want to make.

He was starting to miss simple school work, which he didn’t like. Having to decide the right answer out of a multiple-choice test seemed a lot easier these days than it did in the past.

‘People always complain about school not teaching them real-life skills, but did school help me choose who to be my Luna, no. Did school teach me what the best situation is to do when you’re being attacked or being arrested by the White Rose, they did not,’ Gary complained inwardly.

He was complaining a lot in his head, because honestly, if Kai was saying this was something he wasn’t going to like, then Gary thought it certainly wasn’t going to be something he liked.

Right after Kai said those words, he continued to take Gary through Slough, and Gary still had no idea where they were going or what they were doing.

“Come on, you can just tell me what this big secret is,” Gary said. “It’s eating at me when you say something like that and just don’t reveal it. It’s like when you’re reading a book and they stop just at the next moment before it gets interesting.”

“You read books?” Kai chuckled.

“No, no,” Gary waved his hand in front of his face. “But, I’ve heard Tom used to make those complaints all the time. Anyway, come on, spit it out. We’re going through a lot, so I should be fine with whatever.”

“Gary,” Kai said as he continued to pick up the pace. “There’s a reason why I’m not telling you straight away, because I feel you need to see it in person to get a clear picture.”

There was one thing that Gary realized, it was where they were heading to. It was one of the sports centers in the city. Where they had a large amount of sports rooms that could be rented out on various floors.

Badminton, basketball courts, and more. It wasn’t a place Gary frequently went to, and it wasn’t a place he thought Kai went to much either.

‘He’s not going to ask me to play some sports with him or something like that, right? He can’t be that serious about something like that,’ Gary thought.

His guess was right, not about the sports but about them heading to the sports center as they entered.

They went into the large open reception, and then straight to the elevator. Kai stayed silent until they had eventually reached the fourth floor.

It was a floor filled with around twelve basketball courts, so it was a fairly large place.

There was a glass door before entering the main room that went into the hall, so Gary could see what was waiting in the courts.

“What is this, Kai?” Gary asked.

“Isn’t it obvious?” Kai said as he gestured his hand towards them and opened the door. “I’ve gathered the Howler members that have been with us for a long time. Those that are skilled, and those that I would trust the most.”

Standing in rows were men and women in the black and gold uniform of the Howlers. They were straight as if they were waiting for an order from some commander.

Right on cue, when Gary stepped in, everyone bowed their heads to a ninety-degree angle.

“We greet the leader!” They all shouted in unison that it shook the room. There was such power behind their voice.

What Gary also noticed was in each of their hands there appeared to be a notebook. It wasn’t large in size nor was it thick, but every single one of them had the same notebook.

‘Has writing in diaries come back in fashion again. I thought that whole thing went as soon as people got their hands on phones and locked folders,’ Gary thought.

The real question he needed to ask though was why.

“Why, Kai?” Gary asked, turning his head to him. “Why have you gathered so many people from the Howlers? There has to be at least one hundred people in here.”

“150,” Kai quickly corrected. “Gary, I want you to remember the tough situation we were in when the Phoenix Gang attacked us.”

“At the time, a lot of people died, those in the Howlers as well as the people that lived in the city. That’s how dangerous it is to go up against one of the Kings.”

“The truth is though, at that time, if we hadn’t done what your father had suggested, then we might have lost more. Perhaps all of us would have lost our lives that night before you had arrived.”

Gary now had an idea of what Kai was about to suggest, and he was certainly right about one thing, he wasn’t going to like it.

“You want me to turn everyone here… to the same as us, right? That’s why you brought me?” Gary asked.

He even wondered when Kai had had time to do such a thing, and the Howler members certainly had to be loyal to get up so early so quickly and gather in a place like this, that was for sure.

“Correct, Gary, and I wanted to paint the picture for the reason why, because if I just asked you, then of course you wouldn’t listen,” Kai said.

“Right, because with what we’re doing right now, there might not be a need. The situation might resolve itself, and then they would have changed their lives for no reason, and I would be the one responsible for it.”

“Right,” Kai answered. “The key word you used right there is ‘might.’ There is also a good chance that Lupus attacks us right after all of this fails, and with his large army, he eliminates all of us.”

“Then what, Gary, then what? We have come so far, and you can feel it, right? We’re at the last hurdle, and we need to do whatever we can to win this.”

There was a faint glow in Kai’s eyes that Gary could see. One of pure determination… it was something that always somewhat worried Gary.
