Chapter 6221: Old Cat and Zhan Haichuan

“That Heavenly Dragon World Spiritist has an accomplice. Why does that cat demon look so familiar?” Xianhai Shaoyu discreetly murmured. Only Chu Feng and Little Fishy could hear his monologue. 

“Big brother, do you recognize that cat?” Little Fishy asked.

“I don’t recognize it, but I can’t shake off the feeling I have met it somewhere before.” Xianhai Shaoyu pondered for a long while before suddenly turning to Chu Feng. “Chu Feng, isn’t that the cat you’re acquainted with?”

“Yes, that’s him,” Chu Feng replied.

“Who is it?” Little Fishy was curious. 

“The God Bestowment Bamboo Slip.”

Little Fishy widened her eyes in realization before furiously glaring at Old Cat. “So that darned cat demon was the culprit!”

The Immortal Sea Fish Clan had previously bought a God Bestowment Bamboo Slip at a hefty price.  By the time it fell into their grasp, it had already gone through many hands. 

Curious to know the origin of this God Bestowment Bamboo Slip, the Immortal Sea Fish Clan did some digging and learned that the very first seller was a cat. When Chu Feng heard about it, he told Xianhai Shaoyu and Little Fishy that Old Cat had stolen that God Bestowment Bamboo Slip from him back in the Hundred Refinements Ordinary Realm. 

It was for that reason Little Fishy hated Old Cat despite having never met him. Who could have thought they would meet here?

Chu Feng also didn’t expect Old Cat to be here.

The last time he met Old Cat, he interrogated the latter for Xue Ji’s whereabouts. When he learned that Xue Ji had been gifted to an evil world spirit named the Demon Spirit King, he forced Old Cat to head to the Demoncoffin Ordinary Realm with him to find her. 

Later, the demon coffin opened. 

Old Cat and Chu Feng ended up working together to take advantage of this fortuitous encounter. 

There, he met one of Qin Jiu’s world spirits, Taowu. Taowu approached Chu Feng and Old Cat and requested an alliance, concealing his true strength and taking on the alias of Tao Wu. 

He also met the Totem Nine Daoist’s Daoist Seventh Dragon, Daoist Eighth Dragon, and Daoist Ninth Dragon there, but they were enemies competing for the treasure then. 

Taowu later revealed his true form and strength, and that prompted the Totem Nine Daoists to quickly change their attitudes. 

Old Cat feared the Totem Nine Daoists and didn’t want to offend them, so he chose to leave before Taowu revealed his true form. 

That was Chu Feng’s last time meeting Old Cat.

He thought they would never meet again, but they ended up crossing paths once more. 

Old Cat was now attacking the Ancient Era’s War Clan and devouring the energy emitted from the treasure. He possessed incredible strength.

This surprised Chu Feng. The Old Cat then dared not even cross Daoist Ninth Dragon, so why was he challenging the Ancient Era’s War Clan now?

“It’s that cat! It has returned!”

Many Ancient Era’s War Clansmen exclaimed in horror. Some even took out paintings and unfurled them, revealing Old Cat’s portraits. 

“You know that cat?” Chu Feng asked.

“That cat has been after our clan’s treasures for a long time now. Many years ago, it colluded with our clan’s traitor to steal our treasure,” a voice suddenly boomed from afar.

Looking over, a white-haired old man with a powerful disposition was making his way over. 

“Lord Father.”

“Paying respect to Lord Clan Chief.”

Everyone present bowed to the old man. This was the Ancient Era’s War Clan’s Clan Chief, the elusive individual whom no one in the Immortal Sea Fish Clan had ever seen before. 

“Young friends, there’s no need for the ceremony.” The Ancient Era’s War Clan’s Clan Chief descended before Chu Feng and humbly said, “My apologies. We should have welcomed you as guests into our Ancient Era’s War Clan, but not only did we fail as hosts, we even got you involved in our mess. I am truly ashamed.”

“Lord Clan Chief, you are too courteous. Our Immortal Sea Fish Clan and your Ancient Era’s War Clan are allies. We will not turn a blind eye if there is anything we can do to help you,” Xianhai Shaoyu said.  

Before the Ancient Era’s War Clansmen could say a word, Little Fishy glanced at her brother and scoffed, “What have you done to help? It’s my big brother who has been doing things here.”

“Brother Chu Feng and I are closer than real brothers. I take credit for what he has done.” 

Even though the crowd was initially rendered speechless by Xianhai Shaoyu’s words, his words did make sense upon careful thought.

“Lord Clan Chief, you mentioned that this old cat has been coveting your clan’s treasure. Can you share more details with us?” Chu Feng asked.

“Of course.” 

The Ancient Era’s War Clan’s Clan Chief shared their history with Old Cat. 

40,000 years ago, they learned that a man named Zhan Haichuan was searching for them. They realized that Zhan Haichuan was an Ancient Era’s War Clansman too, just that he was from a fallen branch family. 

Zhan Haichuan possessed incredible talent, and he was searching for the main family because he wanted to return to them. 

After a series of tests on his strength and character, he received the Ancient Era’s War Clan’s acknowledgment and was welcomed back into the main family. He swiftly grew and quickly became a core member of the clan. 

The Ancient Era’s War Clan’s Clan Chief even thought about entrusting his position to Zhan Haichuan. This proposal was firmly rejected by the elders, but he did consider this possibility. 

At this juncture, the Ancient Era’s War Clan’s Clan Chief let out a sigh. 

“What happened afterward showed how naive I was. He is an outsider. He shares the same blood as us, but he grew up elsewhere. Even after cultivating with us for tens of thousands of years, Zhan Haichuan is still not of the same heart and mind as our clansmen.”

The clan chief’s gaze fell on Chu Feng, Little Fishy, and Xianhai Shaoyu.

“I’ll be frank with you. There is indeed a treasure where you came from, and it was left there by our founder. However, that treasure has been sealed away and can’t be used by our clansmen anymore. We can only unseal it after some time. 

“However, Zhan Haichuan wanted that treasure unsealed as soon as possible. He knows our clansmen won’t agree to it, so he colluded with an outsider to pull it off. His accomplice is none other than that cat.”

The clan chief looked at the old cat devouring the energy outside. 

Chu Feng was astonished. 

He had only heard that Zhan Haichuan left the Hundred Refinements Ordinary Realm shortly after he made his name, and when Zhan Haichuan later returned, he did it discreetly and built his tombstone in advance, knowing his days were numbered. 

Old Cat raided his tomb and stole Zhan Haichuan’s legacy and treasure.

Little did he know that the two of them knew each other right from the start!
