And now…
“I see. So that’s what your teacher or whatever is like.”
“In the end, I never found anyone we could really call an adult. Instead, I wound up with a commander who looks and acts like a little kid.”
They were in a park in the Imperial capital.
Jhin and Sisbell were sitting together on a bench.
“Hey, Jhin?!” Commander Mismis was heading toward them at a ferocious clip.
She was petite and had a baby face; she seemed like a far cry from the “boss” their master had intended them to have.
“We need to save Miss Rin and meet with the Lord… Wait, what are you talking about at a time like this?!”
“About Iska and my master. What else am I supposed to do? Sisbell insisted on hearing more about him.”
“You were definitely saying something mean about me!”
“No, I was praising you,” Jhin shot back, and stood from the bench.
A large road led out of the park. Nene and Saint Disciple Risya were waiting for them there.
“The master was absolutely right about Iska picking a fight with the Imperial forces and winding up in prison. I never thought he’d actually do it.”
“? What’s going on?” Iska stared in disbelief at them.
There had been the witch jailbreak incident. A year ago, the foolhardy successor they were just talking about had actually gone through with a plan without telling anyone. As a result, he had been incarcerated for treason. Everything had played out exactly as their teacher had predicted.
“Iska.”
“What?” Iska turned around as his name was called.
“We’re going to see the Lord now,” Jhin said. “But Rin’s also held up there.”
“…Yeah.”
“Don’t go on a rampage unless I’m there to keep an eye on you.”
“Why are you assuming that I’d go on a rampage?!”
“I’m saying it just in case. If somebody doesn’t tell you that, you dive headfirst without thinking,” Jhin told him matter-of-factly.
He looked up at the Lord’s office, which was illuminated ahead on the main road.
