Chapter 642 – Justice

The Governor walked out of the building and looked at the shouting people.

"Murderer!"

"Tyrant!"

"Injustice!"

"We want justice!"

"We want justice!"

"We want justice!"

The Governor looked at all of them with an even expression.

However, deep inside, she was extremely nervous.

This was essentially the city's entire economy standing in front of her.

If these people decided to rebel by refusing to pay taxes, there would be nothing she could do.

The economy of the city would collapse, and the government would not have enough credits to purchase Zephyx from the Manufacturers to pay its tribute to Aegis.

That would make Aegis come to the city and investigate, which would uncover all of her dirty dealings.

Finally, she would get executed.

The pressure on her was immense.

She had to handle this with extreme care.

"We are going to give them justice," Nick whispered into her ear.

The Governor covertly gulped. n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om

The way the Specter's voice sounded didn't seem very reassuring.

And sure enough, when she heard what Nick was telling her to do, she became even more nervous.

However, she had no other choice but to follow Nick's command.

He had her in his grasp.

"Silence!" the Governor shouted, using her Zephyx to augment her voice so that it was loud enough to shock the crowd into silence.

"I will give you justice," the Governor said, quieter this time.

"A Newbie Extractor by the name of Minalgi Herman had a promising career in front of him," the Governor said. "Sadly, Minalgi accidentally overheard a secret conversation between a spokesperson of Rock Solid and an Extractor from Lesbando."

"He was seen at the scene and was confronted and threatened. He was intimidated into staying quiet, but Dimitri Aerol, the CEO of Rock Solid, wanted to make sure that nothing threatened Rock Solid's profits. Because of that, Mr. Aerol paid eight million credits to have Minalgi assassinated."

"Just like he had assassinated Marvin Gnarl, Steven Melvin, and Monita Koblenz. These are just the most high-profile cases of Mr. Aerol's victims."

The people listened with shock.

Naturally, the Governor didn't know any of the people she was talking about. She was just regurgitating what Nick told her.

"Dimitri Aerol was executed for his heinous crimes, and justice for his victims has been served."

"If anyone has any issues regarding this execution, you are allowed to request a review of the evidence. The city assures you that you will be able to review the evidence within a workday after applying for the review."

The Governor made a short pause.

"Stasia Afero was not the biggest fan of her rivaling companies. Because of that, she introduced narcotics into a business dinner and..."

The Governor told a couple of stories of different people who got executed over the next three minutes.

Of course, the crowd wouldn't remain silent forever, and they started to become rowdy again after a while, deliberately drowning out the Governor.

"Quiet!" the Governor shouted again, forcing the people in the crowd to hold their eyes.

"We are going to hold an open hearing now!"

When the people saw these crystals, they had very mixed reactions.

Some of them were terrified and took a couple of steps back, while others had intense desire in their eyes.

Snake Stars were illegal products created by a Specter.

They were insanely addicting, but they eroded brains as well.

When the guy saw the mountain of evidence, his face turned white in horror.

"This can't be! I refuse to believe this!" he shouted.

"Step to the side and read through the evidence. I can't hold up the public hearing to let you read. You may step forward again within the next couple of hours," the Governor said.

The man protested some more, but in the end, he was pushed to the side by one of the guards.

After waiting for a bit, the man started to read through the files.

His mental state seemed to become worse and worse the more he read.

It was clear that he truly hadn't known about what his niece had done.

Not every rich person was a monster.

It seemed like Garla had played him for her entire life.

While she had been working as his assistant, she had actually secretly used the company's logistics and identity to mask her drug business.

By the time the man was reading the file, another person had already stepped forward to address the Governor.

Once more, a sheet of paper appeared in the Governor's hands, and she read through it publicly.

In truth, the sheet of paper only had general information and could be skipped.

However, the purpose of the piece of paper was just to stall for time.

Nick had read through a ton of memories over the last couple of days, and he knew exactly what had happened.

He essentially had been present during all of the illegal meetings and knew exactly where sensitive evidence was hidden.

So, while the Governor took a couple of minutes to read through the general details on the piece of paper, Nick left and went to gather evidence on the victims.

With Nick's speed and power, it wasn't difficult to do all of that in three minutes.

After all, he knew where everything was located. He just needed to get there and grab it.

It wasn't different from just going into a house to grab a random object and leaving again.

Because of Nick, the Governor had a mountain of evidence every time someone wanted to question her.

After about 45 minutes of this, the crowd started to lose their momentum.

This was becoming very problematic.

That was until someone specific stepped forward.

When Nick was gathering the evidence for this case, he realized something.

All the evidence had been destroyed.

There was no evidence.

But that wasn't an issue.

The Governor did get a mountain of evidence, but this evidence didn't pertain to the person who had been executed.

No, it pertained to the person asking for the evidence.

When the person saw the mountain of evidence incriminating him, his face became terrified.

Then, he heard the sound of a gun being prepared, and he looked with fear at the Governor.

"I told you, justice will be served today," she spoke coldly.

BANG!
