AFTERWORD

Long time no see, this is Kisetsu Morita!

First, some announcements.

Both the novels and comics of I’ve Been Killing Slimes… together have sold over five hundred thousand units!

Five hundred thousand… To be honest, those SOLD X THOUSANDS OF COPIES! signs feel like fiction to me, or like I would never experience this myself, so it doesn’t feel real. I’m actually not sure how I’m supposed to be happy about it at all…

This is all thanks to those of you who have supported the series. I hope you will continue to support I’ve Been Killing Slimes…!

Now, in this seventh volume, the second round of the drama CD was sold with it as a limited edition!

The cast was the same as the first, with Aoi Yuki as Azusa, Kaede Hondo as Laika, Sayaka Senbongi as Falfa, Minami Tanaka as Shalsha, Sayaka Harada as Halkara, and Manami Numakura as Beelzebub!

Since this was the second drama CD, I wrote a story that centers around Beelzebub, which is hard to depict during the regular story.

Every member of the cast gave performances that outshone the first CD, and as a listener, I was so, so entranced by it. I was again reminded of how incredible the work of voice talent is, and the breadth and profundity a voice can have. Thank you so much to all the voice actors who participated, and everyone else who was involved!

This time in the novel, I wrote about the goddess who reincarnated Azusa, as well as an ancient poltergeist civilization.

There have been a lot of demons and spirits in the fray, so I thought about introducing even more races (?), and this is how it ended up.

I’ve written a lot about the demon world and the spirit world until now, so I hope to expand on my worldbuilding by writing more about the world of the gods and the world of poltergeists.

Thinking about this a different way, once I introduce divine beings, I feel like there won’t be a lot left for me to write about, but…I’ll try.

Also, this time, my illustrator, Benio, drew the new characters of Goodly Godly Godness, Muu the ghost queen, and her minister Nahna Nahna. Every character adds even more color to the series! Thank you to all the preexisting characters!

Also, of all the illustrations of the preexisting characters, my favorite was the one of fox-eared Azusa. I mean, I feel like I might get comments telling me she isn’t a preexisting character, but she is supercute!

Also, Yusuke Shiba’s very popular comic adaptation is being serialized in GanGan GA! Before Volume 2 came out last month, Volume 1 alone sold more than ten thousand copies. As the original author, that is a drive that I can’t even imagine. I am no match for Yusuke Shiba. I hope to keep striving so that I don’t lose to the cuteness that is his manga version. Thank you so much, Yusuke Shiba!

Also, I am releasing a spin-off short story about Halkara, the elf who makes the same mistakes over and over, called Food for an Elf!

Now, this is entirely a private matter, but just before this book goes on sale, I will have been writing novels professionally for a full ten years.

You often hear phrases like It felt long but went by so quickly in relation to things like this, but so much happened that to me, it honestly feels like It felt long and went by so slowly.

In these past ten years, I’ve been running around here and there, had a lot of people scolding me, getting fed up with me, and earnestly worry about me, but I had scarcely any interruptions when it came to writing books.

You often hear perseverance is power; I would be thankful if the readers could sense that just by keeping on, anyone can create results.

Also, I hate to count how many times I’ve failed until now, but after so many failures, I’ve learned I can use the knowledge I gained doing so to start again.

In that sense, I’ve come to feel—more recently, especially—that failure truly isn’t simply a waste of time, but will become your fertilizer so long as you keep on going.

The next volume will be number eight. This is actually my first time releasing a book numbered at eight. I’ve released two series that ended on volume seven so far (and one is GA Bunko’s You Call That Service?, so please buy it!).

We will be stepping into unknown territory, and I hope you’ll be there with me!
