Chapter 2293: Chapter 2294: Silent Men, Weeping Women
The two women stayed silent.
Ning Che leaned back in his chair and lit a cigarette, his long legs crossed in a way both sexy and wild.
“I’ll hack the hotel’s security network in a bit and check out that guy from Sunrise Land you mentioned. It might just be a coincidence.”
Qiu Yuluo nodded, “That possibility exists, but it’s not likely. If he is suspicious, I’ll keep an eye on him.”
“Fair enough.”
Before they knew it, it was already past five in the evening.
...Qiu Yuluo and Ning Che’s investigation was also making progress.
The Huaxian person Lin Yi had seen at the hotel entrance, after verifying the information, indeed came from Sunrise Land.
But the only ones staying at the hotel were him and another woman – it was still unclear if they had any accomplices.
It was well past six when Luo Qi and Sui Qiang returned, just the two of them.
“Where’s Brother Yue? Why just the two of you?”
Luo Qi looked at Lin Yi with a beaming smile.
“Lin Bro, I swear your words are blessed. Brother Yue caught Bernard’s eye, and he invited him to go drinking at a bar tonight and even suggested they hit the casino together.”
“Fuck!”
The water Lin Yi had just drunk almost sprayed out.
“Lin Bro, don’t get worked up. I think with how things are progressing, we should be able to complete our mission soon.”
“Regardless of how this mission turns out, I’m going to apply for top honors for Brother Yue. This is damn hard.”
Qiu Yuluo and Ning Che couldn’t help but laugh. This group always managed to pull off something unexpected.
“What’s their next move?”
“They’re heading to a night club called Owl Bar tonight. It’s really distinctive locally, a popular spot for the gay crowd, and I heard Bernard has a stake in it,” Luo Qi said with a laugh.
“I’m actually feeling a bit sorry for him.” Sui Qiang added with a chuckle:
“He’s been chasing Siying lately. I wonder how she’ll feel when she hears about this.”
“Exactly, Brother Qiang, you just reminded me. I need to tell Sister Ying about this so she can enjoy the fun too.”
“Enough goofing around. Let’s focus on the task tonight,” Lin Yi said:
“First, make us up so we don’t blow our cover.”
“No problem, leave it to me.”
Ning Che was an expert at disguise; in just half an hour, she completely transformed the appearance of Lin Yi and Sui Qiang. Unless one was very familiar with them, they’d be unrecognizable.
With everything prepared, the three of them drove to the Owl Bar.
The city was small, and it took less than twenty minutes to reach their destination.
In this slow-paced city, the nightlife was like that of a third or fourth-tier city in China.
Each noise remained separate, like a stone thrown into the water, hardly causing a ripple.
Outside the bar, soft music played and they sat in the car, occasionally seeing men, arm in arm, walking out from inside.
Though women also frequented this place, they were few in number.
“Brother Qiang, there’s something off about your expression.”
Sui Qiang, grinning, said, “Seeing these arm-in-arm men just makes me feel sick.”
“I get how you straight guys feel, but think about Brother Yue – doesn’t that make you feel a lot better?”
Sui Qiang couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
“When you put it that way, I do feel a lot better.”
“A toast to our great liberal fighter, Mr. Yang Chaoyue.”
Lin Yi was also amused by Luo Qi.
“Alright, you guys stay here. We’ll go in and check things out. If anything happens outside, let us know immediately.”
“Okay.”
Lin Yi signaled, and Sui Qiang, having gathered himself, walked with Lin Yi towards the bar.
The appearance of the two men did not attract much attention.
Two men showing up at the Owl Bar was nothing out of the ordinary.
Inside the bar, they took a seat at the counter and ordered two beers, looking around.
“Boss, Chaoyue is to your left, just turn your head and you’ll see him,” Sui Qiang whispered.
Lin Yi turned around and saw that in the booth behind him, there were five people, among whom a blonde-haired and blue-eyed woman sat in the middle.
The remaining four were seated on either side of her.
Lin Yi immediately noticed Bernard; he was of average build, with some freckles on his face and very little hair on his head.
Despite being young, he was already balding.
Subconsciously, Lin Yi caught Yang Chaoyue’s gaze.
Their eyes met, and Lin Yi couldn’t help but laugh out loud, turning back to gulp down his beer to hide his smile.
Zhang Chaoyue:…
Are you guys polite?
Buzz buzz buzz—
Soon, Lin Yi’s phone vibrated, a message from Zhang Chaoyue.
“They’re going to gamble later, wait for my message, there might be news.”
Lin Yi glanced back and saw Zhang Chaoyue’s composed expression, guessing the message must have been sent secretly.
As for the phrase “there might be news,” it probably meant to remind himself to be alert tonight for potential gains.
After reading the message, Lin Yi did not reply and put his phone back in his pocket.
The rest, he left to Zhang Chaoyue.
Lin Yi suddenly thought that the people here were quite interesting.
With Bernard’s identity, to be able to mingle so freely here was unthinkable in China.
Lin Yi also vividly remembered something Liang Jinming once told him, an incident that occurred in Northern Ouzhou.
An official had been dismissed from his post because he was half a year behind on his cable TV bill.
Looking at many things now, it all seemed so natural.
Just then, Lin Yi heard a burst of static in his earpiece, followed by Qiu Yuluo’s voice.
“The Sunrise Landese we met at the hotel, two of them went inside, keep an eye out.”
Lin Yi tapped his earpiece, acknowledging her message.
At the same time, Sui Qiang turned his head and saw the man and woman.
“They must have noticed Bernard’s situation and followed him.”
Lin Yi took a sip of his beer to mask his expression and whispered:
“They’re not the focus. Keep an eye on the other people in the bar, I’m worried other nations and forces might infiltrate.”
“Understood.”
The two continued to drink and observe.
Luckily, they did not spot anyone suspicious.
Just then, Lin Yi heard movement behind him and saw Zhang Chaoyue and the others stand up and walk towards a staircase on one side.
“Boss…”
“Don’t rush.”
Finishing his sentence, Lin Yi spoke to the bartender:
“Hey buddy, do you guys have a basement here? Is there something else fun?”
“Of course,” the bartender looked at Lin Yi and Sui Qiang, and gave a knowing smile,
“Our bar’s basement provides a resting place for couples. If you two are tired, you can go down there and take a seat.”
Lin Yi:…
Sui Qiang:…
“Boss, you can probably cure colorectal diseases, right?”
