“Here, we wouldn’t have to experience those things, which means fewer people would die. How wonderful.”
Even if it wasn’t his own world, he followed the principle that life was paramount.
He had always believed the proverb ‘human life is of the utmost importance’ made a lot of sense.
“It’s fortunate,” Jiang Yue agreed. She had lived through the apocalypse and had the most authority to speak on it. If possible, she wished that no world would ever have to go through such times, when only despair existed, and no hope.
Now, she stood in a school, surrounded by students—who everybody knew represented the future of a world—full of life and flourishing.
At that moment, Xue Yan turned his head and looked at her, “Shall we continue watching? Or do you want to ask someone?”
Jiang Yue thought there really wasn’t much to ask. This place existed two to three hundred years before the apocalypse, and during the apocalypse, she had already seen some historical materials, so she said, “No need, we’re not going to live here, knowing this is what the world is like is enough. Let’s go back.”
“Hmm.” He took her hand and walked to the small alley beside the school fence. Seeing no one was around, the two returned to their space together.
Back in Da Ling’s bedroom, Jiang Yue and Xue Yan didn’t return to the banquet hall; instead, they went up to the rooftop and sat there, gazing at the moon above.
He held her close, and she leaned on his shoulder.
They could faintly hear the sounds from the banquet, very lively.
But their hearts were at peace.
“The two spaces have completely merged. Over the years, even though I continuously took seeds out of the space, everyone knew we couldn’t rely solely on that. Besides, after so many years, whether it’s Da Ling or other countries, and even other worlds, they have all conducted research and bred various seeds with high yield and strong resistance. So in the future, even if we don’t take seeds out from the space, it won’t make a big difference,” Jiang Yue slowly said.
Indeed, over the years, whether it was Da Ling, or the other countries in the same world as Da Ling, such as Beicheng and Dongxiao, or the apocalypse behind the white door, or the ministers outside the black door, or the Beast World beyond the Green Gate, all had invested manpower and money in research and had achieved success.
Xue Yan nodded, speaking for her, “The younger generations at home have all made something of themselves, each capable of holding their own. Even if we pass away after a hundred years and go to another world, we can rest easy.”
Jiang Yue also nodded, “Yes.” At ease.
Then, she stopped looking at the moon and turned to him, “What do you think? After we die in this world, which kind of world will we go to next?”
Because the space had automatic protection and the ability to seal the consciousness of its host, preventing complete death, they had long theorized that after their death in Da Ling, their consciousness would most likely be transported by the space to another world, to live within another person’s body. The space’s tendency to travel between worlds was influenced by its original host but also could not detach from its current hosts, naturally allowing the two of them to meet again… and then continuously cycle in this way.
This would essentially make it so they could never truly die.
And their future encounters would actually be reunions.
Because this time, neither of them transferred the space’s control, there wouldn’t be any side effects like memory loss, they would retain their memories from Da Ling. There was no need for a slow and gradual relationship to develop feelings as had happened in Da Ling; a reunion was naturally assured.
“I don’t know,” Xue Yan shook his head. He had no idea which kind of world space would send their consciousness to next. All he knew was, “No matter what kind of world it is, I will find you.”
“Hmm,” Jiang Yue nodded, “I will find you too.”
Xue Yan smiled, “Then, shall we meet again there?”
Jiang Yue smiled as well, “Till then.”
