Although Xue Yan was a year younger than herself, she naturally respected him for his elder status and his kindness towards her and Xue Ganggang. Jiang Yue nodded earnestly, “Mhm.”
“What would you say if you met my parents and they asked when you think we should get married?” Xue Ganggang asked.
Jiang Yue replied, “What about you? When do you want to?”
Xue Ganggang laughed, “Actually, I think we could get married right now, immediately.”
Jiang Yue was silent for a moment before saying, “Let’s wait a bit longer, I’m not quite ready yet.” After all, her house had just been finished and there was still a lot to do.
As if afraid she would object, he added, “If I were a true Da Ling person, I wouldn’t wait.”
“You don’t need to explain, I understand what you mean. You just want me to have a better life when I marry into your family, right? And you know I don’t mind. But if you insist on this, I won’t oppose it. I certainly won’t be foolish enough to tell you not to treat me well. You agree, don’t you?” she said, bursting into laughter first.
Jiang Yue also smiled, hugged her, paused slightly, but still kissed her on the forehead.
Xue Ganggang immediately froze, then buried her face in his chest and laughed. It was the first time he had kissed her, albeit on her forehead.
It wasn’t until the afternoon that Jiang Yue and Xue Yan arrived in the Beast World, on the hillside, to pick up Xue Ganggang.
Jiang Yue gave Xue Yan the Gold meant for purchasing goods, asking him to help buy things in Da Ling and bring them to the Beast World. Since there were many items to buy, Jiang Yue wrote out a list—actually, Xue Ganggang had written it because he didn’t know the Da Ling script. Naturally, he made sure to thank Jiang Yue and Xue Yan profusely.
Money shouldn’t go to outsiders; hence, the next day, Jiang Yue and Xue Yan handed over the Gold and the list to Xue Sifu to make the purchases.
Xue Sifu’s businesses were spread out everywhere, dealing in all kinds of goods. Everything Jiang Yue wanted to buy was available in his stores. Xue Sifu handed the list to a branch storekeeper, instructing him to prepare everything listed there; the Gold was accounted for as well.
In the past apocalypse, they also used to find Xue Yan for purchasing goods.
Although Xue Yan didn’t know about the apocalypse, he had long sensed something was amiss but had never asked. It suited them just fine, as they didn’t have to explain anything.
However, this time, thinking that the person buying the goods would be their future son-in-law, Jiang Yue and Xue Yan mentioned it to Xue Sifu in private, saying, “These were bought by Ganggang’s beloved.”
Xue Sifu laughed, “Just the beloved?”
Upon hearing this, Jiang Yue and Xue Yan realized that their brother knew about Ganggang’s love affair.
Xue Yan asked, “Four tigers, who told you?”
Clearly, they didn’t think Ganggang had said anything.
Xue Sifu replied, “Who else but Xue Shi. He thought Ganggang was acting strange and constantly giggling to himself, enough to give him the chills. So, he figured Ganggang must be in love. The strange behavior started last December, around the time when Ganggang confessed to having a secret crush on someone named Bai Xing. He thought that meant Ganggang must have successfully started a relationship with Bai Xing. During the New Year, he and Xue Bai sneaked around talking about this, but I stumbled upon them. Eldest brother happened to come by too and overheard. He also learned about the portrait; Xue Shi sneaked back, found Bai Xing’s portrait, and showed it to us. While we haven’t met the person, we’ve gotten to know what he looks like. Even though eldest brother felt like the prized cabbage in our family has been snatched by someone else, that didn’t stop him from thinking highly of Bai Xing.”
