INTERMISSION B
“You know, it’s really easy to get sucked into clicking through my picture folder like this. I like physical photo albums because they just feel different, but it’s nice that you can easily sort tons of pics on a computer.”
“Both albums and digital collections have their strengths and drawbacks. And both are excellent at eliciting memories.”
The pair continued to look through a variety of photos.
“Oh, these are of Karisawa’s group.”
“That’s right. I gave her my email, so she sends me photos of her cosplay group now and then. She keeps asking if I’ll join.”
“What’s the name of her group, again? I remember that it was something very strange.”
“Oh, dear, what was it?” Celty wondered, unable to remember, either.
Shinra added a more pressing question: “By the way…what cosplay would you do, Celty?”
“I don’t know…the headless knight from Sleepy Hollow, maybe?”
“Personally, I would recommend a more orthodox uniform-style costume, like a maid or a nurse. Any uniform you wear would be like a wedding dress to me…”
“All right, all right,” Celty typed, ignoring him. She continued perusing the photos. “Hmm? What’s this one…?”
“Oh, that’s a picture that I took. It’s the promotional image at the bookstore.”
“Ah…of the nukekubi.”
“Yes, the nukekubi.”
They did not elaborate further on what that meant, and because it was not a particularly fond memory for Celty, she flipped to the next picture right away.
This time, it wasn’t a photo of a person, but a series of images, all of manga pages.
“Oh…no, not these! Delete them! Let’s delete them all!”
“You can’t, Celty!” Shinra said, grabbing her hand before she could remove them all.
The black-market doctor gave her a dazzling smile and pressed his case.
“We can’t delete the evidence of your debut work!”
