IT’S TOUGH BEING POPULAR

In the Twilight Manor’s study, Finn was sitting in his chair. Through his window, he could see the sun set in the west and give way to dusk. Finn sighed, stopped scribbling with his quill pen, and looked around the empty room.

“I don’t think this room has ever seemed so large…”

Loki and many of her children had left for Port Meren three days prior. There was no Riveria to grant him assistance and no Tiona to break into his room and follow him around everywhere. Thanks to that, he had made more progress on his work than ever before, but Finn found little satisfaction in the stack of completed paperwork that had piled up on his desk.

“Excuse me, Finn,” said Gareth, entering the study. “Sorry to be a bother, but could you look over this contract with Hephaistos Fami—Hm? Why the long face? Missing the rascals already, are you?”

“Is it that obvious?” Finn smiled. “If I am, old friend, then there must be something seriously wrong with me. You know, when you entered just now, for a moment, I thought it might be one of them.”

“Hmph! Then your symptoms must be getting worse!” joked Gareth.

Just then, there was a cry of “Captain!!” and someone came running into the study—someone whom Finn was sure he had seen off just three days prior.

“Aki, what’s the matter?” he asked. “Did something happen?”

“A message from Loki! It’s Tione and Tiona! They…”

The catgirl breathlessly explained the situation, and Finn’s eyes, as clear and blue as the surface of a lake, narrowed in an instant.

“Gareth,” he said, standing up from his seat. “Gather all our people. Go into town and collect everybody’s gear, no matter what state of repair they’re in. We’re going to Meren.”

“Understood, but Bete and a few of the others went to the bar. They could be anywhere in the city.”

“Then go to the walls and fly our emergency banner. Let every mortal and deity in the city know that all members of Loki Familia are to convene at the walls immediately.”

Finn’s swift decisions spurred the whole familia into action. The prum commander picked up his weapon, the Fortia Spear, and exited into the hallway.

“Heh. I should have known better than to expect a quiet moment,” he said. “Even when you’re not around, you’re still giving me grief.”

The momentary smile on Finn’s lips was quickly replaced with the stern, determined frown of a captain, and he set off to extricate his juniors from their latest troubles.
