A MAIDEN NOT IN LOVE

“Captain! Wait! Come baaack!”

Tiona watched as her elder sister ran past, chasing Finn with a basket of baked sweets under her arm. After a moment, Tione seemed to notice her intense gaze and stopped in her tracks.

“…What is it?” she asked, mildly annoyed.

“Hmm…I just think it’s crazy you’re still going after Finn,” Tiona replied.

Faced with Tione’s daily antics, Tiona had to admit how much her sister had changed after meeting Finn. The old Tione would have grown bored and moved on by now.

“Hmph, that’s the power of love!” boasted Tione, who fought 20, even 50 percent harder whenever Finn was watching. “Are you really saying there’s not a male or two you’re interested in?”

As Amazons could only give birth to girls, they tended to see the men of other races as potential husbands or baby-making tools, licking their lips at the sight of a strapping man even before any personal feelings factored into the matter. Rather, it was Tiona who was the odd one out, as she had so far failed to show much interest in men at all.

“I’m not saying that. It’s just…” began Tiona, folding her arms. Finn wasn’t her type, Bete was an automatic no, Gareth was too old for her, and Raul…well, he just wasn’t boyfriend material.

…Come to think of it, what is my type?

As Tione pondered it for longer and longer, her big sister sighed and went, “Fine. I’ll ask you some questions. Don’t think about it too hard; just say the first thing that pops into your head. What’s the first race that comes to mind?”

“Um…human!”

“Age?”

“The same as me…or younger!”

“Gender?”

“Male! …Hey, what’s with that question?!”

Ignoring Tiona’s objection, Tione went straight to her simplistic conclusion. “Your type is a human male no older than you!” she declared.

Tiona wasn’t sure what to make of this evaluation. She pondered it for a while, her eyes turned skyward. Even with that information, she still couldn’t picture her ideal man.

“Well, it doesn’t matter,” she concluded at last. “I don’t really care about that stuff anyway.”

Tiona gave a hearty laugh as her sister began to complain.

In the not-too-distant future, Tiona would finally meet an adventurer boy she could cheer for.
