AFTER THE DESERT JOURNEY: ELVEN DEBRIEFING
Royman Mardeel, head of the Guild, had a stomachache.
He wanted to swallow some medicine right now.
For standing in his office on the very top floor of Guild HQ was one man: Freya Familia’s first-tier adventurer and fellow elf, Hedin Selland.
“Our Lady Freya has been brought back to Orario, safe and sound. We didn’t suffer any losses, either. What are you so annoyed about?”
“For breaking the rules, leaving the city without a word…Lord Ouranos will not be pleased, you know!”
“If he finds out, then all your dirty little secrets Freya was able to blackmail you with will be aired out like filthy laundry, pig.”
“Grh…!”
When Freya first left for the Kaios Desert, she had made a deal with Royman. Then when her first-tier adventurers wanted to know where she went, it was Hedin who had burst into Royman’s office, demanding an explanation. “Why did you let Lady Freya out of the city? If she didn’t charm you, then she must know some secrets you can’t stand to be leaked. What are they? Tell me them now,” he said, calmly yet driven to madness by worry, “or I’ll kill you.”
It was only due to Hedin’s ingenuity (and Royman’s indiscretion) that the leaders of Freya Familia were able to pick up on their goddess’s trail so quickly.
Out of all the elves, few were more terrified of Hedin than Royman was. The man seemed oddly quick to anger, and any random thing could set him off. When the terrifying man ripped off Royman’s spectacles and crushed them, it was already over. Yet it also seemed like there was a part of Hedin’s mind that recognized and utilized his own anger from a place of rational detachment. If it was up to Royman, he would take that high-elf runaway princess over Hedin any day of the week. Out of all Freya Familia’s wild beasts, Hedin was the one Royman hated dealing with the most. How many times had he been driven to exhaustion by the elf’s outrageous demands?
“Come to think of it, I had to deal with someone very much like you on my trip,” said Hedin, “albeit even more loathsome, if you can imagine such a thing. Do you want me to try the same methods that worked so well on him?”
“Th-that won’t be necessary! This is the most terrifying traveler’s tale I’ve ever heard! What did you do to this man anyway?”
“I let the others temper him until he became a second Ottar, only smaller and weaker.”
“The scariest thing is that I actually understand what you mean by that incomprehensible gibberish!! Your ‘training’ should be classified as cruel and unusual punishment! What else did you get up to on this misadventure of yours?!”
“We exterminated an army of eighty thousand with only eight. There were people watching, too.”
Royman began frothing at the mouth, his eyes rolling back in his head as he collapsed onto the floor.
And Royman’s regular order of stomach medicine increased in size yet again after that day.
