Afterword
Hello again. It’s me, Miya Kazuki. Thank you very much for reading Ascendance of a Bookworm: Part 3 Volume 1. Part 3 begins with this volume.
Rozemyne was baptized as Karstedt’s daughter before immediately being adopted by the archduke, thereby becoming a member of the archduke’s family. The number of people involved with her has blown up immensely, including a ton of new family members and retainers. It’s hard even for Rozemyne to keep all their names and faces in order. Dear readers, please feel absolutely free to learn them at your own pace as the story progresses. (Hahaha.)
The overarching goal of Part 3 is for Rozemyne to adjust to noble society and make the potion that’ll heal her body. In this volume, she did the exact opposite: extorting money from her guardians through recipes, gathering money from a unique charity concert, selling merchandise at said concert, and so on. But I ask that you read on warmly as she continues to fail at fitting in.
The potion she needs to make requires her to gather a variety of materials, and to this end she made her own highbeast for transportation. She yet again approached this in an inventive way, and while the Pandabus may have earned her firm disapproval from Ferdinand, it is ideal for transporting luggage and lets her travel without needing to worry about being blown around by the wind.
Rozemyne is busy as the archduke’s adopted daughter, a higher-up in the printing industry, the High Bishop, and the orphanage director, but she still finds herself constantly thinking about her family in the lower city. She interacts with them in small ways as best she can, while also making sure that she doesn’t break the magic contract.
And finally, thanks to all the power and authority vested in her now, Rozemyne has been steadily moving the printing industry along. Both Johann and Zack were tasked with making machines to manufacture wax paper, with the latter being the first person to actually want to be a Gutenberg. As you might remember, Zack appeared in Part 2 Volume 3’s short story: “The Title of ‘Gutenberg.’” They’re all working hard for the sake of printing.
Not only were lots of new characters introduced in this volume, but there’s the four-panel comic at the end as well. Shiina-sama definitely has her hands full with work. I feel guilty, but at the same time I’m happy to have so many cute illustrations. Thank you very much, Shiina You-sama.
And finally, I offer up my highest thanks to everyone who read this book. May we meet again in Part 3 Volume 2.
July 2016, Miya Kazuki
