Run-In with a Ghost

After successfully forging a peace treaty with the Freyjagard Empire and issuing—albeit not without some setbacks—their new currency, goss, the Republic of Elm obtained a solid foothold on its continent.

However, that had all been accomplished off the backs of Tsukasa and the other Prodigies. That was no good. As it was, Elm was no true democracy.

A democratic state was supposed to be managed in accordance with the will and the pride of the people who lived in it. For that to happen, a system to make the nation’s actions reflect its people’s wants needed to be established. That was what Tsukasa had been ceaselessly preparing for since Elm’s founding.

It was time for an election.

The republic needed to be split up into regions, and each one had to elect a representative. Those representatives would then come together into a national assembly and make decisions on behalf of the country.

Thanks to the cease-fire pact, Elm had secured peace for the time being. The country’s new currency and open markets had also been gifted a period of growth. That just left the government. If there was ever a time to create a national assembly, now was the time to do it.

As such, Tsukasa prepared a stage to declare that the Republic of Elm would soon be holding its first elections. The announcement was to take place in the central plaza of the country’s capital, Dulleskoff.

There, a special stage had been prepared so that Tsukasa could give his address in front of all the city’s people. Plus, his voice and visage were being broadcast all across Elm so the entire nation could hear the news.

One month from the day of the announcement, the people of this world would be taking over for the Seven Luminaries and leading the country themselves. Once that happened, the Republic of Elm would truly be a democratic nation.

Or rather, that was how it was supposed to go.

“Pray, forgive this sudden visit.”

As Tsukasa stood atop the stage, he found himself interrupted right as he was about to announce the elections. Something leaped over the crowd and landed directly before the others and him.

It was the girl and the white wolf who had saved the Prodigies in their hour of need, as well as a dark-haired woman with ears that looked just like Lyrule’s.

As screams rose from the Dulleskoff crowd, the woman gracefully alighted from the wolf.

Then, with a wise smile…she spoke.

“I am Empress Kaguya of the Yamato Empire. As ye Seven Luminaries and your Republic of Elm promote the doctrine of equality for all, I hath come seeking salvation for my country, now oppressed by the wicked Freyjagard Empire. If ye would remain true to your convictions, then might you find it in your hearts to aid us?”

In the blink of an eye, her words marked the end of the Prodigies’ peaceful days, and a storm descended on the continent once more.
