Chapter 1455 Weird News
Rowan observed the leader of this group of seven, who had the appearance of a grizzled veteran who had survived many battles, he was the most heavily armored among all of them, making Rowan peg his strength to be half his own, which was impressive when he detected that there was not a lot of Aether flowing through his body, due to age and other complications, he was slowly growing weaker.
In a part of his mind, he could not help but be fascinated by the aging process of mortals, as he could observe their cells dying and being replaced, only each time the replacement was a little bit off, a little bit weaker, and slowly the glory days of a mortal came to an end. For immortals the process was nearly opposite, for with great age came strength.
Rowan sighed, pulling his mind away from these unnecessary thoughts, "You all, hunt the Dark One? Admirable, but most would agree that this is a road to ruin."
The leader of the seven smiled in sadness, "And yet that is the road that we must walk until the end because there is nothing left for us here but death and madness, and if the final acts of our lives would be to plunge our dagger into the heart of that mad man, then it would be worth it. The question, however, is simple: who are you, and how is it possible that after the Dark One left his blade inside your head, you are still alive? Perhaps you hunt him like us or are you his discarded shade?"
"So many questions, most are irrelevant to the matter on hand," Rowan replied as he arched his brows, surprised that the knowledge of Shades were known to mortals, "Know that indeed I hunt the mad creature ahead, but for the rest of your questions, I cannot answer them, because I also don't know the truth of my origin in this place, consider me an extra blade to this venture."
"Venture you say," The Mage suddenly cackled, "We go to die fool, and you call it a venture. Oh well, what one more body to the pile, just because you are strong does not make any difference here. I hate the look in your eyes, there is nothing there but curiosity, if you really are an outsider in this realm then do not mock our suffering" Rowan cocked his head to the side as he observed this mage, he appeared to be young, but his hair was white, he was most likely preserving himself past his natural life span using Aether, and there was a haunting look in his eyes that showed that this man was at the edge of breaking, faint sparks shot out of his red eyes uncontrollably, and Rowan was sure that only the presence of his companions was making him hold on to the smallest tethers of humanity left in him, in situations like these, suicide was a relief, and so Rowan spoke slowly to him, his voice reaching the others, and the calmness in his tone was enough to force them all to listen, truly listen to him, "I intend to hunt the Dark One, and yes, I intend to kill him, is there a chance that. I might fail, yes, I will likely die without accomplishing what could barely be classified to be a nuisance for the Dark One, but is there a chance, no matter how small that I would succeed," Rowan paused, allowing his words to settle in the mind of these warriors and for the tension to build,
"Yes, there is one. It is slim, and the opportunity is fleeting, but there is a path ahead that leads to the head of the Dark One on the fucking ground. You are right, I'm an outsider, but I know the difference between right and wrong, and killing that thing is much of a trial for me as it is for you all, my levity comes from the fact that I have accepted my death, and so all I am focused on is to be able to kill as effectively as I can, anything short of that mental state would lead to failure."
They were all frozen in place, and it was the female archer who stepped forward, "Are you telling the truth, or is this one more elaborate lie from that mad god to play with our hearts before he ends us."
Rowan looked her in the eyes, "This is no joke, we can kill him, and the more time we stand here talking, the less that chance becomes."
"Is it because he is undergoing metamorphosis?" The leader of the seven spoke nearly in a whisper and Rowan looked at him in surprise, he sniffed in irritation at the look he got from Rowan, "Just because we are mortals does not mean we are stupid, after a month of endless screams, we should be able to decipher some truths,"
Rowan smirked, "No, I was only surprised that it took you so long to figure out this simple fact,"
