Thank you
"...I'm sorry."
An hour later, I was in Gideon's bedroom, apologizing for visiting him.
Fortunately, Gideon had simply collapsed due to fatigue and a lack of energy caused by the misfire of his magic, so his life was not in danger and he suffered no aftereffects.
Still, an apology is necessary since I made him do something unreasonable.
“…Even though your method was like that, I was the one who asked you to teach me how to cancel the chant. It’s true that we got a foothold, so there’s no need for you to apologize.”
That's right! I just did my best to help Gideon-sama cancel the chant! How wonderful would the world be if I could say something like that?
"Thank you for your generosity, Gideon."
"Stop talking in such an exaggerated manner. It feels like you're making fun of me."
Even in my previous life, when I used pompous language, people would often mistake it for provoking others.
I'm trying my best to show my respect.
"So, is this okay?"
"Yeah, as long as it's not in a public place that's fine."
When I spoke again in my usual tone, Gideon nodded, seemingly satisfied for some reason.
I don't really know what great people are thinking.
"By the way, what's that case on your right?"
"Oh, spice cookies."
While waiting for Gideon to wake up, I borrowed the Misfeed family kitchen and made cookies. Since it was a sympathy visit, I thought it would be better to bring a gift.
"I don't care what's inside. I'm interested in the case."
Gideon showed no interest at all when I showed him the contents, but he seemed curious about the case it was being kept in.
"Ah, it's a case made from processed slime skin."
As I handed it to him, Gideon eagerly took it in his hand.
I was able to make this by chance when making slime poi.
It's light and durable like a plastic case, so I find it very useful as a small container.
"...It's revolutionary to have such a lightweight yet durable material. I want more of this."
"I've sold them to the Triela Company, so please take as much as you like."
"I see. I'll call him over to the mansion later."
When it comes to duke families, they don't go to a trading company, they summon them.
I feel sorry for Tory, who will be called later, but it won't be a bad thing for him to have a connection with the Misfeed family.
"So, will you give me any magic items?"
"I can't say I've completely mastered it, but I've certainly gotten a foothold. I'll give you a magic item as a reward."
I did it. Now I can get the Misfeed family's treasured magical item.
While I was inwardly rejoicing, Gideon got up from the bed.
"Can you show me around?"
"No. Let's practice again while we still remember that feeling."
Yes, it's best to repeat successful experiences over and over again so that they become ingrained in you.
As expected of someone from a magical aristocratic family, he seems to have a deep understanding of the tricks to mastering magic.
It's an impressive feat considering he was so exhausted he nearly collapsed.
"Huh? Then where is my magic tool?"
"I've already spoken to my father about it, so just get something."
I wondered if it was okay to do it so casually, but Gideon seemed to be engrossed in cancelling the chant and left me behind, heading towards the courtyard first.
That means I have to negotiate with Schugel about the magic tools.
I wanted to negotiate with Gideon, who doesn't care about magical items, but he's engrossed in his practice so I don't think he'll be interested in me for a while. It's a common thing for wizards to get annoyed at everything else when they see a spell that looks likely to succeed.
"Hello, Lord Alfried."
When I left Gideon's bedroom and came to the third floor hall, Schugel was sitting on the sofa waiting for me.
"Mr. Schugel! I apologize for placing such a burden on your son."
"Don't worry about it. That's just how my son is."
He apologizes for training her to the point of collapsing, but Schugel doesn't seem to mind at all. It's a shame there is such a huge difference in how the son and daughter are treated, but in both worlds, this is the same way that fathers treat their sons.
"Now, regarding the reward. I would like to give my son a magic item as thanks for teaching him the clue to cancel the incantation."
"thank you"
"Follow me."
Schugel rose from the sofa and walked down the hallway.
He'll probably lead me to a room where magical tools are kept.
"Ah! It's Al and Dad!"
When I went down the stairs to the first floor, I encountered Ra-chan and her maid, Loretta.
The attire has changed from dresses to casual clothes that are easier to move in.
She had probably just finished taking a bath and was on her way back to her room.
"What are you doing?"
"Schugel-sama, you have magic--"
"I wanted to show my magic tools to Lord Alfried!"
When I tried to answer Ra-chan's question, Schugel covered me up and answered in a loud voice.
How badly does this old man want to talk to his daughter?
"Daddy's collection room?! I want to go too!"
"Oh, that's great. Come along, Lana."
"Yeah!"
I guess she just wants to follow along because I'm doing something interesting.
Since there was no particular reason to refuse, the four of us, including Ra-chan and Loretta, proceeded down the mansion's corridor.
"I was wondering, did Schugel-sama not teach Gideon-sama how to cancel chants?"
It was unthinkable that a magician of Schugel's caliber would be unable to use chant cancellation or chantless spells.
If that's the case, I think it would have been better if he had taught him.
"I've tried to teach it before, but I just couldn't teach it well."
"Does discarding chanting or not chanting depend largely on the individual's talent or intuition?"
So far, the only people I've taught to cancel or eliminate chanting are Elna-kaasan, Ra-chan, and Gideon. The only thing those three have in common is that they all have outstanding talent for magic.
"There are still many aspects that are unknown, but I think that this is one of the factors."
Schugel doesn't seem convinced of this either.
Putting the ability to cancel spells aside, there are very few wizards who can cast spells without chanting.
There may simply not be enough data.
"Alfleet-sama was able to teach those two such intuitive techniques. Perhaps you have a talent for teaching magic to students?"
"You've got to be kidding. Lady Rana and Lady Gideon were just exceptionally talented."
The two of them had the talent to eventually reach that level without me teaching them.
I have no intention of being arrogant and thinking that I was the one who led the way.
As we were having this casual conversation, we arrived at the back of the first floor.
"It's up ahead."
Schugel opened the heavy iron door and beyond it led to a stone staircase.
Apparently the magical tools are stored in the basement of the mansion.
There was a lighting magic tool installed on the wall, and when Schugel poured magical power into it, the lights came on in tandem.
I followed behind Schugel as he trudged ahead and descended the stairs.
A row of magical lighting items were installed on the walls, illuminating our path.
The lighting magical tools weren't that expensive, but each one had a different design.
Probably no two are alike.
Even though they are on the cheaper side, ordering this many items to order still costs a fair amount.
This once again brings to mind the financial might of the Misfeed family.
