Chapter 1593: Tit for Tat

The Crown Prince seethed with anger, adamant about rejecting anyone associated with the East Palace.
However, Shao Yunduan’s demeanor remained ambiguous and perplexing.
Contrary to appearances, Shao Yunduan’s stance was crystal clear.
The Fourth Prince, growing increasingly convinced, desired to expedite Shao Yunduan’s departure from the capital. This individual’s presence in the capital’s intermediate had brought about too many complications— the farther he went, the better!
Initially skeptical of Princess Consort’s words, the Crown Prince now found himself infuriated and placed blame on Qiao Xuan.
Summoned to the East Palace, Qiao Xuan received a severe reprimand from Princess Consort. The intention was to urge her to adopt a generous and virtuous attitude, to not harbor selfish resentments. What more could she gain by ruining her husband’s career?
In the face of accusations, Qiao Xuan grew indignant. “…I fail to comprehend your meaning, and I don’t understand why you’re telling me this.”
Princess Consort’s anger escalated, and she sneered. “You claim not to understand? You’ve always been audacious and intelligent—what’s there not to understand?”
“Princess Consort, you flatter me; I’m unworthy of such praise,” Qiao Xuan replied with a slight bow, maintaining composure. “I am not impolite, I am not virtuous, and I am not selfish. Princess Consort, where did you come across these words?”
“You!”
“Princess Consort, is my husband worthless and foolish?”
Having seemingly discovered a vulnerability in Qiao Xuan’s demeanor, Princess Consort snapped, “Ms. Qiao, how can you speak ill of your own husband? You’re not a good wife!”
“Princess Consort, do you not grasp? I am inquiring about your opinion, not endorsing any particular view. So, do you also believe that my husband is not that kind of person? In that case, my husband should be the one to judge whether I am virtuous, magnanimous, or selfish, correct?”
“My husband has always treated me kindly and has never accused me of being a bad person. I am genuinely perplexed. Where did these accusations originate, Princess Consort? Has someone maligned me in your presence?”
“I will not accept being falsely accused! Princess Consort, kindly clarify and vindicate my reputation!”
Princess Consort, incensed, retorted, “Ms. Qiao, are you attempting to force me? How dare you! Do you comprehend the hierarchy?”
“I’m simply seeking an explanation. Otherwise, I won’t endure this tarnished reputation while remaining in the capital!”
Princess Consort, irritated by the mention of staying in the capital, snapped at Dao. “How dare you resort to such threats! Fine, I won’t beat around the bush; I’ll explain!”
“You were abducted—”
“Princess Consort,” Qiao Xuan interjected, expressing confusion. “What are you talking about? I am becoming increasingly baffled.”
Princess Consort was caught off guard.
Qiao Xuan’s kidnapping hadn’t been made public; Shao Yunduan had informed the Crown Prince privately, with the Crown Prince opting to keep it under wraps.
Upon Qiao Xuan’s pushback, the Crown Prince instructed Princess Consort not to openly discuss the matter.
However, she cared little for the directive. In fact, she relished the idea of seeking revenge and eagerly anticipated the widespread dissemination of this information.
