The fact of the matter is that they did bring me here because they wanted to use the pure and dense mana that I had.
He even said, "If you were alone, then it would have been easier for us to guide you to the place that we wanted you to go."
It seemed that once the ruse was over, he didn't hold back at all in saying what he wanted to say.
That caused a bitter smile to appear on my face.
Still, I didn't say anything as I followed the head teacher deeper into the ruins.
I didn't have any fear since he didn't have any fear, but I did look carefully at the different buildings that were around us. I wanted to see if there was anything special about this place around us.
Only there wasn't a single thing that was different even though we had moved quite a bit away from the rest of the group.
It seemed like there were just the same buildings all around in this city.
But that didn't make sense since it wasn't as if there were only residences in a city.
I had already gone through some of these buildings, which was why I knew that they were all residences. And with how much distance we had covered, it was impossible for this all just to be the residence district.
After a while, the buildings around us finally changed.
Or it was better to say that all of the buildings suddenly disappeared.
It was as if we had reached the border of the city with how there wasn't a single building around us, but I knew that this wasn't the case. After all, there was still a paved road that was under us that seemed to be leading somewhere.
In fact, it even seemed like this was something special as this paved road was much different compared to the road in the city.
This paved road seemed like it was coated in something that seemed to be protecting it.
While the road in the city seemed to be worn down because of time, this paved road seemed like it was still brand new. It was all because of the coating that this paved road remained as spotless as it did.
For them to do something like this for this road meant that it had to be a road that led somewhere special.
I even looked at the head teacher with a curious gaze.
Seeing this, he shook his head and said, "This was here when we arrived. This isn't something that we prepared."
He didn't mind sharing this information since it showed that we were heading towards a place that had something important in it just like he said.
After walking down this road a bit longer, we finally arrived at our destination.
I couldn't help being surprised when we arrived since this definitely wasn't what I had been expecting to see.
It was a statue, but it wasn't just any statue.
It was a beautiful woman whose face seemed to be blurred by something. It wasn't that there was something wrong with the statue or that there was something that was physically there.
This seemed to be some kind of phenomenon that created some kind of mosaic that covered the face of the statue.
I narrowed my eyes to look at this mosaic, but I couldn't feel anything from it.
There wasn't a trace of mana that was coming from it, which showed that it wasn't some kind of magic that was cast on the statue that hid it. As well, there seemed to be no other indications of what it was.
It seemed like some kind of natural phenomenon.
I turned to look at the head teacher once more, but he just shook his head as he said, "We haven't done anything to the statue." There was a trace of bitterness that appeared on his face as he continued by saying, "If we were able to do anything, would we still need your help?"
He really wasn't holding back at all now that everything had been laid out on the table.
That made a bitter smile appear on my face as well before I asked, "Then how do you know that this thing still works or that it even requires mana?"
The head teacher approached the statue while waving his hand at me, as if he was telling me to follow him.
The two of us went to the other side of the statue and he showed me certain things.
They weren't that prominent, but they were visible if one knew where to look.
These were magic arrays that were connected to the statue, which showed that it did take mana to activate.
After showing me this, the head teacher said, "This is also the same thing that's on those training devices. It's how we activate them to give you the test."
Since that was the case, I looked at him as if I was waiting for something.
He knew what I was thinking, so he pulled out his staff and pointed it at the magic arrays.
Though there were mana fluctuations coming from the staff, it didn't seem like there was a single reaction from the statue. It was as if he was just pouring water into an ocean, which didn't have a single effect at all.
After doing this for a bit, the head teacher stopped since he had proved his point and turned back to look at me as if he was waiting for me to do something.
I knew what he was waiting for, but I didn't approach the statue that easily.
Instead, I took a closer look at the magic arrays that were there.
"Un, I don't understand at all." That was the only thought that was on my mind.
These magic arrays were just too complicated for me to see through them, so I had no idea what they did.
But since this city was related to the beta test zone…
I raised my hand and sent my mana into the magic arrays.
