Afterword
I DIDN’T DO ONE IN Volume One, but it looks like we’re doing an afterword here in Volume Two. My editor gave me free rein to write about whatever I wanted, but I’m still deciding what that might be.
Give me a moment.
I’ve got an idea. Why not talk about the video games I like? They’ve somewhat influenced my work, so it’s not entirely off-topic.
I can imagine you’ve already guessed my favorite genre is RPGs. Anything by Square Enix or from the Tales series was sure to be amazing, and I rather liked the Wild Arms series as well. So many hours of sleep lost. I was so young.
But I always stayed away from RPGs like the Persona series that had a more realistic setting.
Then, something happened—I lost interest. Before, when a new Tales game was announced, I’d instantly preorder and then sit around waiting and counting the days for the game to launch. Nowadays, I see articles online about new games and I just skip over them.
Some new RPG is announced, and the world goes gaga, and I don’t care in the slightest. As someone who loved RPGs, I never thought this would happen to me.
But there are still games that I get hooked on. Games like Dark Souls and The Elder Scrolls series. Great fantasy games. Though Dark Souls might be a bit too dark at times.
The Elder Scrolls has an MMO now too, it seems. But it doesn’t have a Japanese client (as of September 2012), so it seems a bit daunting for someone with only around a middle-school–level grasp of English. But I won’t let that stop me! Maybe, even if it is just in English…I’m still thinking about it.
Anyway, the game I’m most interested in at the moment is probably… Hey, don’t act so uninterested!
If you’re taking the time to read this, then you have no one to blame but yourself!
It’s called Deep Down. As soon as I saw the trailer, I was hooked.
But, you know…work. I won’t be able to play the game; I have to keep writing. But I can dream, can’t I? Dreaming about the future, when I have the money and the time…
Oh, right, speaking of dreams, this summer (2014), Universal Studios Japan finally launched it! You know, that thing they’ve been showing all over TV!
That’s right! The Wizarding World of Harry Potter!
I wonder how many of you who are still bothering to read this have already been? I’m so jealous.
I’d rather spend a day in there than at any other attraction. As someone who loves fantasy, that’s my dream. I would love to live there. It’s sure to stir the imagination. Maybe spark a few story ideas. Or perhaps that’s just the writer in me talking.
Right now, going there is my number one goal. And then buying all the merchandise. I have to at least get myself a wand! And cast a spell. I want a robe too. Preferably all four. This dream is growing. Oh, well, it’s still a ways off.
I might have to win the lottery. I have to buy a ticket first, though.
Oh, well, escapism is one of my hobbies, alongside enjoying fine art. I’ll get lost looking at the fantastic and nostalgic images I’ve collected along the way and imagine what it would be like to visit or live in such places.
Did you look at the cover? Just like Volume One, it was drawn by fuzichoco!
I love fuzichoco’s illustrations. They’re so full of charm, it’s like they’ve captured a scene from a world and you can almost make out the other parts of the world that weren’t drawn.
My imagination is soaring.
Since I’m just a humble writer, I meander in my short sleeves into that world looking for inspiration. As I wander this great world asking for booksellers to let me leave my book somewhere in their store, the inviting tones of a festival greet me. Then I leap onto a train with no fixed destination. From a high place, I watch the sunset paint the city in colors.
Ahh, I wish I were there.
I’d like to take this moment to thank fuzichoco from the bottom of my heart, for showing me those amazing worlds and for drawing the covers and internal illustrations.
fuzichoco, thank you so very much! Thank you for your continued support!
And finally…
Thank you all for purchasing this book. Thanks to you, I keep getting closer to that goal. You keep helping me get closer to USJ, where fantasy is made reality.
I’ll see you next time.
