And now the epilogue, or rather, the punchline of this story. 

In the end, why did Jun-san’s fist defeat the vampire’s ghost? For a long while, this remained a mystery on par with an irrational theory from a shounen manga, or something along those lines. However, afterwards I had the chance to meet and to make an acquaintance of the immortal oddities specialist, Kagenui Yozuru, who more or less explained what had happened. 

“To be able to challenge the visible remaining thoughts activated by your blood, one would most likely need to ingest your saliva by kissing you. By ingesting the vampire-like DNA, one would meet the 

‘requirements’ to be able to hit the oddity, for a short period of time.” She said. 

So that reward kiss was not given with the intent of draining the oxygen out of me. No. Now that I think of it, if we follow the train of thought about how oxygen is transported by hemoglobin inside the blood, then that deep breath was also a “requirement”. With that in mind, while it looked like she was just going wild doing whatever she pleased, that person was unexpectedly worthy of being called a strategist, or rather, someone very calculating. 

“No, not very calculating, I don’t think. It doesn’t look like she actually found your true identity. That said, I don’t think she was just testing to see if the kiss would work or not. She simply wanted to kiss and that coincidentally worked out. She improvised too much to be considered a specialist.” 

If even the exceptional and extreme specialist, the one who is called the violent onmyouji, Kagenui-san says something like that, then it means humanity’s strongest really is out of the ordinary. 

“Indeed. Her strength really is out of the ordinary. With that in mind, if Kiss-Shot Acerola-Orion Heart-Under-Blade’s remaining thoughts manifested because of your blood, then it probably reacted upon the contractor’s visit and thus gained a concrete appearance. Or, at the very least, it’s one of the main causes, so your saliva was probably not even required in the first place.” 

If oddities are entities that take shape according to human emotions, then it’s up to a living human’s strong will in the form of a kiss to crush them, and up to the truth... And so Kagenui-san continues her speech, uncharacteristically mixing up a lot of concepts in one go. 

This comes from someone who has continuously killed her own will and emotions and who has kept by her side an immortal doll, so you could also say that it is an opinion rather characteristic of Kagenuisan. 

Even if that’s the case, I grief for the reward kiss. Boys’ feelings get hurt as well, you know? 

Not that I wanted to relieve myself of such resentment, but I ended up asking directly Kagenui-san who would win between the ironblooded, hot-blooded, cold-blooded vampire, Kiss-Shot AcerolaOrion Heart-Under-Blade’s real form, and humanity’s strongest contractor, Aikawa Jun. 

“As one of many specialists I absolutely have to say that it would be a complete victory for Heart-Under-Blade. I can say with confidence how that valuable species is the type of monster that would build a castle out of human corpses and the type of monster that would eradicate half of the oddities. Faith and things of that nature are meaningless before hatred.” 

And after stating such pragmatic opinion, Kagenui-san said... 

“That’s right, but as a human I would hope for the contractor’s victory.” 

She stated that hopeful observation. 

In any case, whether or not there were any remaining thoughts is not definite, but from there on, the ghost of the vampire did not show itself in the aforementioned cram school’s ruined building again. However, shortly thereafter the ruined building was demolished, and that’s a plus. 

The building which humanity’s strongest contractor stepped on did in fact collapse, so that ghost story-like urban legend was most likely trustworthy.
