Afterword
And with this, I brought you the eighth volume of "The Magian Company". How was it? Did you enjoy it?
In this eighth volume, I tried to divide the story in two halves, the first half being a magical battle with the secondary characters at the main stage, and in the second part, the main characters' dive into a bizarre style of action.
In this eighth volume, I've attempted to divide the story in two halves. The first half being a magical battle with the secondary characters at the main stage. Whereas in the second part, the main characters' dive into a bizarre style of action. I hope I managed to get my ideas across.
…But if you felt that "it didn't change anything in taste," then I take your words to heart.
Those of you who have known me since my debut are undoubtedly aware of the fact that I spent a period of my life deeply immersed in the world of fiction. The author's introduction on the cover of every volume says as much (laughs). I was mainly interested in contemporary fantasy novels of the heroic genre, so you could say that fantasy fiction violence was just my cup of tea.
Naturally, I would like to try my hand at novels in that vein. However, due either to a lack of motivation or skill ─ or perhaps both ─ until now, I have never finished a novel as a completed work of art. I have often been tossing around ideas, but without being able to put them into words and chapters, it would be pointless for me as a novelist.
This time, I was able to address, if just a little bit, of that personal frustration with myself in an irregular way. In short, it is through self-satisfaction, well… sort of, in its own way.
About the magic battle in the first half of the volume, we were finally able to see the [Agni Downburst] in action, which had only been mentioned in name until now. Although, what appeared in this volume was a downgraded version, a different beast from the full-fledged Strategic-Class Magic with the same name.
I am aware that there also exists a downburst phenomenon called heat burst, but [Agni-Downburst] as a magic reverses the sequence of this heat burst phenomenon. And to tell the truth, I was a bit surprised to learn about Heat Burst, because I didn't know about it at the time when I came up with [Agni Downburst].
Speaking of debuts, I would say that Lena's [Ataraxia] is one of them. The naming of this magic has been a bit difficult until recently. I had already settled on the mechanism and usage of the magic when I came up with Lena's character, but I only decided on [Ataraxia] just before starting to write this volume.
On a different note, I was considering renaming Laura's [Mistletoe Arrow] after it was already being shown, and this was another "until the last minute" decision that I had to make.
By contrast, Dean's [Dionysus] and [Gjallarhorn] were fairly easy and early decisions. [Gjallarhorn] was very much a case of the name coming first and then coming up with the effects.
(This part was written just before the publication of this book) As you are reading this, I believe the third season of the animated TV series is currently being aired. I hope you have taken a chance to watch it. The TV anime is set four years before "Magian Company," and during the production, I myself, as the author, was at times puzzled by the changes in relationships in the work.
I believe it has already been announced at this point, but my next book will be a completely new title for the first time in a long time. I hope you will take a look at it as well.
After that, the next in the release pipeline should be the second volume of "Yoru no Tobari ni Yami ha Hirameku" (The Darkness Flashes under the Curtain of Night).
All that being said, I'd like to say my farewells for this issue.
Thank you very much for your continuous support and patience.
