EPILOGUE 2
A Girl Offering Prayers to Ten Billion Stars
Her vision was white.
The floor, ceiling, and walls had been painted in sterile white. Even the bed on which she laid was white.
“…Where is this place…? Ouch.”
As soon as she got up, she felt pain shooting through the back of her scalp. She hesitantly fingered the small lump on her head. Something had hit her, which must have caused her to lose consciousness.
“Iska?” Her weakened voice rang emptily in the room. “…Commander Mismis? Nene? Jhin?”
Where was the Imperial unit who had been protecting her?
She had been running for her life from Lord Talisman’s private army in the villa. But she had no recollection of the events following that.
“Ngh. No!” The youngest princess gulped when she scanned the room again.
There were no doors. How had she gotten into this room? From some sort of astral power? Or was there a hidden door somewhere?
“……” Dread started to creep over Sisbell.
Iska and the rest of the Imperial unit weren’t here. She had been tossed into this room alone, and there wasn’t even a door to leave it.
There was one thing she could guess about the situation…
“…Have I…been kidnapped…?”
She tried to mentally retrace her steps. They had been facing against the Hydra, which meant this was probably the Solar Spire. It wouldn’t be strange if they had a hidden room or two.
But what were they planning to do now that they had captured her? She would have exposed with Illumination that the House of Hydra had been trying to kill the queen. So she was a threat to them.
Was this an attempt to silence her? No. If that was the case, they wouldn’t have shut her away into this hidden room. Was she a hostage to use against the Lou family? Or were they going to try winning her over and use her power for one of their schemes?
“This isn’t funny. Who would obey them?!”
All her screams bounced off the walls. Even though she knew it was in vain, Sisbell continued, straining her voice. She did it to encourage herself, to keep herself from succumbing to the fear that was about to overtake her.
…I’m not going to lose. You have to be brave, Sisbell!
…This isn’t a first for me, remember?
She had experienced something similar in the past. She remembered the fear that had crushed her after she had been caught and threatened with a gruesome death. What did she really have to fear? Compared to that, this was nothing.
“…” Sisbell placed her hand on her chest and steadied her heart.
Remember. Back then, someone had come to help her. There had been an eccentric Imperial soldier who released her from the Imperial prison.
“Keep quiet. I’m gonna let you out right now.”
“Why are you…letting me escape…?”
From that moment on, she believed—and continued to believe—that Unit 907 would never abandon her.
“…What good will it do to lose faith now?!”
She squeezed the hem of her sleeve, quivering. Her lips trembled.
“Astral powers that guide this planet, I beg of you.”
She prayed to the stars.
If prayers held power, she would offer as many as she needed.
“Please deliver my message to Unit 907…!”
