Afterword

Thank you for choosing to purchase and read this book! This is the author, Miraijin A, speaking!

I was inspired to write a story about medieval territory management by a certain historical simulation game set in the Sengoku period of Japanese history. The game casts you as one of the many lords (or “Daimyo”) that ruled over Japan at the time, then tasks you with uniting the country under your banner. The first game in the series was released almost forty years ago, and the latest one is the fifteenth such title. It’s an incredibly popular franchise!

I consider myself a huge fan of the series, and while I haven’t played every single game that’s been released, I have sunk literally hundreds of hours into the ones I’ve tried. That probably goes to show just how much I like the games. They allow you to play as the likes of Oda Nobunaga and Tokugawa Ieyasu─historical figures so famous that everyone in Japan knows about them.

Playing as the Oda or Tokugawa clan means that you start the game with an abundance of skilled subordinates, so taking over Japan is relatively easy. When I first discovered the series, I enjoyed that level of difficulty, but the longer I played, the more I grew unsatisfied. I wanted a challenge.

My solution: I chose to play as a figure so obscure that only the most hardcore of history nerds would have even heard of him. I won’t say precisely who I picked, but his stats were low, and his retainers’ stats were all laughably low as well. Making him the ruler of Japan was a grueling task.

That difficulty, however, just made victory all the more sweet. I quickly became obsessed, and pulled many accidental all-nighters playing the game nonstop. The sense of achievement I felt when I finally made my no-name noble the ruler of Japan is something I’ll never forget. As a Reincarnated Aristocrat, I’ll Use My Appraisal Skill to Rise in the World is a story that came to me as I thought back on the time I chose to play that game as a petty, insignificant lord.

This work will be my fifth published series in Japan to date. That I’ve had so many of my works published in the two years or so since I first became an author is something I never would have even dared to dream about. I started writing as a hobby, more or less, so I find the fact that so many people read and enjoy my works deeply moving.

To everyone who purchased this book, everyone who read and supported the web novel version of the story, to my editor, who did their absolute best to support me throughout the writing process, and to jimmy, who drew the most wonderful illustrations I could have ever asked for, I offer my most sincere gratitude. Thank you all so, so much.

And with all that said, I hope to see you again in the next volume!
