Work Hours
The day after everyone other than me returned home…
After just one more night with Enne at the hotel, I was flying on a military airship to exterminate monsters.
“…Military airships are cool? I think I like these better than the cruise ships.” (Enne)
“I understand, Enne. It’s cool, military airships.” (Yuki)
The captain had formalized things during the night so that we could deal with things earlier and in the next morning, after we had breakfast, we were whisked away in a horse-drawn carriage that had been sent to get us.
We went straight to a military base near the capital and boarded an airship.
The speed of this military aircraft was spectacular.
While we were admiring the coolness of the military aircraft, the captain, who was piloting the ship with his men in command, called out to us.
“The enemy is just up ahead. I’m sorry, but if we get any closer, the ship will be in danger of being attacked, so this is as far as we can take you.”
“Okay, once we’re done eliminating it, we’ll just return home directly. So you don’t have to worry about us. Oh, you can do whatever you want with the materials from the monsters we killed. I don’t need them. –Enne, let’s go.” (Yuki)
“…Hmm.”(Captain)
Enne, who had been looking at the ship in a good mood, nodded and returned to her sword form.
“I would really like you to stay behind after defeating the monster and entertain you, but it would probably be more troublesome for you.” (Captain)
“Oh, sorry. Our family has left, so we want to get home as soon as possible.” (Yuki)
With that, I slung Enne over my shoulder and opened the ramp of the airship I knew so well.
A breeze entered the airship.
“…Well, come to think of it, this is the third time you’ve sent me off like this.” (Yuki)
“Kuku, it is. It’s a strange fate, now that you mention it. –See you again sometime, miss, and the Demon Lord.” (Captain)
“Well then, see you soon. Captain.” (Yuki)
“I… I look forward to it!” (Captain)
He saluted me. I smiled and saluted him back, and then I popped off the airship.
In the midst of my free fall, I controlled my wings to grab hold of the sky and fly.
My body felt the comfortable sensation of the wind blowing through the air.
I have always liked flying, but I think I enjoy it even more now that I have three pairs of wings. I could understand why people who liked motorcycles and cars would start obsessing over horsepower.
Speaking of which, I hadn’t seen it yet, but I knew that Sakuya also had wings.
Lefi was certain that Sakuya had wings, since there was a point on his back where the flow of magical power was concentrated.
I was looking forward to being able to fly with my little boy.
While I was thinking about that, I caught a glimpse of the target.
“Oh, that’s it, huh… I’ve heard about it, but it’s pretty big.” (Yuki)
[… Hmmm. But it’s just a big one.] (Enne)
Enne, who I was carrying on my shoulder, said so, looking like it was nothing.
“Ha, yeah. That’s right.” (Yuki)
There it was, a huge quadrupedal monster that seemed like it was three stories tall.
–A [Gorillarave]
It was a lion-type monster but with bulging muscles making it look like a cross between a lion and a gorilla. It also had a magnificent mane as well as horns.
It had no wings, but it seemed to have tremendous jumping ability, and it would sometimes jump on you if you were flying at low altitudes, or even throw rocks at you if you were flying at high altitudes.
In fact, one of the military vessels flying to investigate this area was hit by a rock. Thankfully, it somehow managed to return home after being wrecked. The monster seemed to have a very rough temperament.
And to make matters worse, this monster seemed to have a wide territorial range, perhaps because of its large size, and it could be found anywhere in the surrounding mountain ranges.
