I love cats, but when a cat shows up in The World as a possible cheat or Vagrant AI, all my warm fuzzy feelings go Ollt the window. Reading through the report that Saki Shibayama just handed me, I had a feeling that's exactly what I was dealing with.

I took a sip of warm coffee and tossed the report down on my desk. Saki nervously waited for my orders.

"Was there any user damage?" I asked.

"After a player traded with the cat, the player's data was destroyed. We already have several other similar complaints." Saki shifted her weight uncomfortably.

I leaned back in my chair and stared out the window. On the streets below, a mass of people rushed home from work. After reading the report, I knew I wouldn't be leaving the office any time soon.

Working in the Japanese corporate office for Cyber Connect Corporation (CC Corp.) had its advantages and disadvantages. Long hours maintaining the world's largest online game with over twenty million users was often a hassle.

"Does it speak?" I asked.

"What?"

"Does the cat speak?" I tapped my fingers on the report.

"I don't know. At this point, we're not sure if the cat is a PC or an NPC."

Saki was nervous because I had scolded her a month earlier for not memorizing the System Administrator User Manual. Every member of the Cobalt Knights. or debuggers, needed to know every chapter and verse of that book. As punishment. I had her making copies and fetching coffee and any orner grunt work I could dnun up. Now that she'd returned to her normal duties, she was still skittish around me.

I tapped my chin. "If the problem is a player character, then the game masters would eliminate him or her from the system. If this cat is a Non-Player Character, then it's our problem. Since we don't yet know what we're dealing with, we need to look into this further. Maintain contact with the GMs."

"Yes, sir," she said.

I hoped this rookie wouldn't screw up again.
