As we continued deeper, there were less and less tracks that were around this place.
There were still some tracks, but it was clear that there weren’t as many people that came this deep into Death Valley.
From what Klein and the royal guards could see, there was only a single group that came to this place.
There were multiple tracks, but they moved together which showed that they belonged to a single group.
After following these tracks for a bit, we arrived at a place where there were cliff walls all around us. These cliff walls had slowly grown from rock formations into giant cliff walls that completely cut off this place.
But it wasn’t just cliff walls that were in this place.
There were holes that were also in the cliff walls that seemed to lead off into other places.
Though with how dark this place was, it was hard to see just where these holes led. It was even hard just trying to see how deep these holes were.
With how many holes there were in the cliff walls around us, it really didn’t seem like a good idea to be wandering off like this. It would be dangerous to go too deep in this place since we could get completely lost.
But the other strange thing was that it didn’t seem like there was going to be an end to this canyon.
It seemed like this place would continue on and on forever...but that was impossible since there was only a limited amount of space that this place could stretch in. After all, people had already found the other end of Death Valley.
It really didn’t seem to make sense how long this place stretched out for...
"There’s something off about this place."
I didn’t need to say this out loud since the others had already been surrounding me as if they were getting ready to protect me if anything happened.
Once I said this, Klein said, "Your majesty, should we leave this place then?"
The way that he phrased it was no longer the same as before.
But I could hear the hidden tone that was in his voice.
He was still acting the same way as before, he was trying to get me to leave this place as soon as possible.
Though this time, I did agree with him.
The only reason that I came to Death Valley today was to scout out this place and based on what I’ve seen, I could say that I’ve already accomplished that goal.
Pushing in deeper wouldn’t accomplish anything else and would just put me in danger.
Not to mention that I hadn’t found a single clue about the god’s messenger that was hiding in this place. So instead of wandering around like a headless chicken, it was better to see if I could get more information about this place.
I even knew who I should go looking for.
Those mercenaries that had told me about this place, they were the ones that were the most skilled out of all the mercenaries in town. After all, they were the only ones that had gotten this deep into Death Valley.
So they should be the ones that had information that I wanted.
"Let’s go back then."
There were visible signs of relief from Klein and the royal guards when they heard this, but I chose to ignore this as I turned around to lead the way back.
Klein and the royal guards quickly moved to follow me, surrounding me as if they were still protecting me.
The problem was that when we tried to leave this place...
"It all looks the same...I can’t find the way out at all." Klein muttered under his breath.
Though we had been following the tracks that we had made when we entered this place, it didn’t seem like we were able to find the exit to this place.
The more that we walked, the more that it seemed to stretch on.
It was clear that we had walked far more than we had already walked previously, so it wasn’t a problem of not reaching the exit.
It was a problem that there was something that was keeping us from the exit.
With the way that things seemed similar, it was as if we were being made to walk in the same corridor again and again. But to accomplish something like this...
"It doesn’t seem like illusion magic or else I would have noticed something." I said to Klein when we stopped.
Klein and the other royal guards couldn’t help deeply knitting their brows when they heard this. They had already thought the same, but they had been hoping that I would be able to provide more insight.
Now that I told them that I couldn’t find anything, it was as if their final hope was taken from them.
"We’ll start choosing who to send out to search the area." That was the decision that Klein came to in the end.
This time, it was my turn to deeply knit my brows.
From his tone and the words that he said, it wasn’t hard to figure out what he was thinking.
It was just that I wasn’t about to let them do something like this.
It just wasn’t right to let them make a sacrifice like this just in hopes that they would be able to find a way out.
But I didn’t get a chance to stop them.
When I was about to say something, there was a reaction that came from my hand.
It wasn’t just any normal reaction, which was why I immediately looked down at my hand.
It was a mark that had suddenly appeared on my hand and it wasn’t just any mark.
It was the Mark of God that suddenly started to glow.
"Your majesty, this is?" Klein and the others naturally also noticed it since they could see the glow coming from my hand.
But I ignored them as I muttered to myself, "Then this is related to the god’s messenger?"
