Since I made up my mind, I didn’t waste any time at all.
"Young master, we really should turn back." Klein said in a concerned voice from behind me.
The royal guards naturally followed me since I entered Death Valley, but they had been trying their best to convince me to turn back this entire time.
Of course, I had gotten quite good at ignoring them after everything that we’ve been through.
It wasn’t that I didn’t respect my guards, it was just that I knew what was important. Or that was the excuse that I told myself when I did my best to filter them out.
The area that was known as Death Valley was quite large, but there was only one entrance for us to go through from this town. Even though it covered a large area, there were only a few entrances that allowed one to enter Death Valley.
But once we entered, we found that there were many different paths to take.
From the tracks that were left on the ground, it was clear that all of these paths had already been traveled down previously.
The mercenaries that entered from this entrance had clearly already explored all of the different paths that were here.
For mercenaries that cared about profit, it was only natural that they would do something like this.
For a little bit more profit, they might not even care about the lives of a few of their companions.
So it was only natural that they had explored all of these paths before.
The problem was that we had no idea which of these paths led to where.
I had asked the mercenaries about the environment inside of Death Valley and they had given me their experience, but it wasn’t as if they would tell me everything there was to know.
For these mercenaries, their routes were the only way that they would be able to make money off this place.
It wasn’t strange at all that they wouldn’t tell me how to reach the places that they told me about.
The only thing that I was certain of was that these paths would lead to the places that they told me about.
Instead of trying to figure it out all on my own, I turned to look at Klein and the others behind me to ask, "Well? Which way do you think we should go?"
Their first answer was of course...
"We should turn around and leave this place."
However, I just ignored this first answer that they gave me and waited for them to give me a real answer. Seeing that I was acting this way, Klein and the others had no choice but to take this seriously and start looking around.
These royal guards had been specially trained for things like this, so it was easy for them to pick up tracks and such. They were able to easily figure out which of these paths had been traveled the most and which paths had been traveled the least.
It was honestly quite impressive the way that they were able to figure these things out.
Once they were done, they gave me their honest opinion.
"This is the path that we should take. It’s the one with the most tracks and it’s not just all different people that are traveling down this path. It seems like several different groups, but they are consistently taking this path. That should mean that this is the safest path for us." Klein gave a detailed and honest report.
It was clear that he and the rest of the royal guards had learned that since they couldn’t beat me, they had no choice but to join me.
I gave a nod of approval after hearing this before saying, "Alright, we’ll take this path then."
Klein and the royal guards were surprised to hear this, but then they stepped forward and said, "Let us scout ahead first."
I didn’t stop them from doing what they wanted since I already knew that there wasn’t anything dangerous that was in front of us. It wasn’t the memories of my past life, but rather the mana sense that I possessed that told me this.
So I was fine with letting them join in.
After all, this was the reason why I wanted them to join in.
By letting them be a part of what I was doing instead of continuing to fight against them, at least we could work together instead of them trying to keep convincing me to go back.
With Klein and the royal guards leading the way, it didn’t take long for us to arrive at our first location.
This place was just like what one of the mercenary groups told me about.
This was a place that was an oasis.
It had a large pond in the center and all kinds of lush greenery that was growing here.
At the same time, what grew here wasn’t just normal greenery, but rather quite impressive plants. These were plants that were giving off traces of mana which showed that they were special magic plants.
Some of them even bore fruit that seemed to release mana, which showed that they were fruits that most likely contained mana.
Fruits that contained mana like this were favoured not just by magicians, but also by knights since they needed mana to train up their bodies. So there was no doubt that fruits like this would sell very well if they were sold on the market.
With how much mana was being released by some of the fruits, I could tell that there were also fruits that could have been sold on auction.
There was no need to doubt how much profit that could have been gained from selling something in an auction.
But looking closely, one could see that there were human traces in this place.
These were most likely things that had been left by the mercenaries to protect this place.
It was only normal that they would do this when this was their source of money.
