"Are you crazy? You want to go to that place?"
I never told anyone where we were heading before this, but they all looked at me like I was insane the moment that I told them where we were going.
This wasn’t strange since the place that we were going was considered a very dangerous place.
It was a place that no one would step foot in unless they had no choice.
It was so dangerous that it was considered a taboo zone by every single country that was on the continent.
So for someone to suggest going to that place, it wasn’t strange if everyone thought that person was crazy.
But this was the place that I wanted to go.
After all, this was the place that the next god’s messenger was hiding.
So I really had no choice in this matter and had to go to this place.
Along the way, the ones that followed me tried to do what they could to prevent me from going to that place. It was just that no matter what they said to me, I didn’t listen at all.
That was why they took drastic measures.
"Your majesty, please don’t do this."
When we arrived at the town that was closest to the place that I wanted to go, there was a group that was waiting there for me.
This was a group that had come to this town on the back of wyverns, so it was only natural that I recognized them. In fact, it was their main mission to protect me since they were the royal guards.
Klein was the one that led this group in trying to stop me.
For them to have found me, there was no doubt that the mermaids that had been escorting me had told them about where I was planning to go. They gave them information about all of my moves just so they could track us here.
In fact, they made sure that the royal guards would arrive before I arrived with how much they coordinated all of this.
I wasn’t angry with them since I had already expected them to do something like this.
But it wasn’t as if I would stop just because they asked me to stop.
After all, this was something that had to be done.
Once we arrived, they didn’t keep addressing me in the same way. It was just that with the way they followed behind me, it was very clear that my status wasn’t normal.
I had wanted to pick up a few things and get some information before heading to that place, but it really was hard with Klein and the others following me.
That was why I had to give them an ultimatum.
"Either follow me quietly or I’ll run away."
The expression on the faces of Klein and the other royal guards turned ugly the moment that they heard this.
After all, they knew that if I really wanted to...I would be able to run away and ditch them.
So in the end, they had no choice but to cooperate with me even though it was clear that they weren’t willing. It was just that they had no other choice in this matter since I would be able to keep the threat that I made.
With this, I was able to start getting information from the mercenaries that were in this town.
The place that I wanted to head to was known as Death Valley.
It was known as this because of how dangerous it was.
It was a place that didn’t seem to have any moisture at all and seemed like it was devoid of life, but there were still many monsters that lived there. Since there were monsters, it meant that there were resources to harvest.
The mercenaries that made their base in this town would head into Death Valley and slay monsters for those resources.
That meant that they had explored Death Valley quite a bit and should be able to provide the information that I wanted.
It was just that the information that I got...wasn’t what I had been expecting.
"That place is no different from hell."
This was the general consensus that the mercenaries had about Death Valley, but that wasn’t what I had been asking for.
As for the specifics, it didn’t really seem like they had anything that they could agree to.
Some of them called it a maze with how they kept getting lost in the different tunnels that spread out all over the valley. Some of them called it a desert with how open it was and how it was covered in sandstorms.
There were even some that called this place an oasis that was filled with many different treasures.
In short, it seemed like everyone had their own stories about Death Valley.
Since I had never actually been in the Death Valley, it wasn’t as if there was any experience that I could draw on.
"Your...Young master, I think that this should be enough to illustrate how dangerous this place is." Klein said after we had asked around a bit.
The other royal guards that came with us nodded in agreement to this.
However, I just ignored them as I focused on what I had heard from the mercenaries.
Those mercenaries were the ones that explored the Death Valley for money, so it wasn’t as if they spent a lot of time there. The ones that I asked had most likely only given me their personal experience in Death Valley.
They would only explore the areas that they could earn money from and each group was different.
After all, each group had a place that they considered their territory.
So it wasn’t as if the answers that they gave me were wrong.
As for whether they were lying or not, the money that I gave was good and they were quite inebriated at that point. It would be hard for them to lie to me with the conditions in my favour.
With a sigh, I said to myself, "It seems like asking around won’t work. I’ll have to go in myself to see what that place is like."
