"You really won’t tell me anything?" I asked in a calm voice after Aestum made that declaration.
There was a tense atmosphere that filled the air after I asked this.
The residents of this place had been coming over to see what was happening, but they immediately backed down when they heard the content of our discussion.
Most of them had even hidden themselves away as if they were scared of hearing the contents.
There were a few that remained, but that was because of their loyalty towards Aestum.
It seemed that these were the ones that were the most faithful followers of Aestum out of all the followers that they had. That was why they remained here just in case they could do anything to help Aestum.
The kraken was among those that remained, but it was clear that even the god’s messenger was uncomfortable hearing this.
Since the kraken was the messenger of Aestum, it meant that it should have a deeper connection to Aestum. That meant that it should have known far more than these normal believers of Aestum.
From the look that was on the kraken’s face, it really seemed like there was an awkward thing that was happening between the kraken and Aestum.
It was as if Aestum was even forcing the kraken to say something to try and convince me out of this.
However, since Aestum wasn’t willing to give me an answer...
It wasn’t as if there wasn’t someone else that I could go to for an answer.
After all, there were two sides to this.
Well, three sides if one were to include the sea witches in this, but it was hard when the original sea witches that were involved in this matter had long been dead. As for the sea witches that currently existed, they didn’t inherit the full truth of the matter.
Even if they did, it wasn’t as if they would be able to speak on behalf of the sea witches of the past.
So the only thing that I could do was question the other party that was involved.
"Let’s go." I said all of a sudden to the kraken.
The kraken didn’t even try to hide its surprise this time as it asked, "Where are we going?"
"We’re going back to the Merman Empire’s capital." I said in a calm voice that made it seem like everything was fine.
When the kraken heard this, it seemed like it was trying to figure out what I was thinking at first. But then after a while, it seemed like the kraken just accepted that I didn’t have anything else I was planning.
It would have gone easily if not for Aestum.
"Wait, what are you planning?" Aestum asked all of a sudden.
"Are you going to answer me?" I asked back.
Aestum fell silent, but I could tell from the expression on the kraken’s face that there was something happening in silence between the two of them.
The kraken was the messenger of Aestum, so there was no doubt that there was a connection between the two of them. At this moment, Aestum was abusing this connection to put pressure on the kraken to try and stop me.
However, it wasn’t as if I was going to back down just because Aestum was putting pressure on me like this.
After all, I had long lost the fear that I once had of the gods...
"Let’s go." I said in a firmer voice this time.
The kraken still seemed to be hesitating, so I said, "Aren’t you contracted to me right now? Are you not going to listen to me?"
An even more awkward expression appeared on the kraken’s face when it heard this.
But eventually, it came over to my side even though it was clear that Aestum was trying to convince it not to.
"Can you just drop this matter?" Aestum asked all of a sudden.
"I don’t believe that you would do all of this without a reason. Perhaps I might have dropped it if it was something that didn’t affect the people that I’m connected to, but those are my in laws. Right now, I can’t back down." I said in the same firm voice.
Aestum didn’t say anything, but the flickering that came from the ball of blue light was more than enough to show what it was feeling.
In the end, I got on the kraken and headed back towards the Merman Empire’s capital.
"Don’t go slow. Move at your normal speed." I had to say this to the kraken when I felt that it was stalling.
The kraken didn’t speed up right away and instead asked, "Can you really not let this go? No one will benefit from forcing this matter."
"Tell me the truth then."
"I don’t know what you’re talking about." The kraken replied in a firm voice.
I could tell that the kraken wasn’t lying about this.
Even though it was trying to stop me, it wasn’t because it knew the truth. The reason that the kraken was trying to stop me was because of its faith in Aestum.
Still, that wasn’t enough to stop me.
"Just go."
In the end, the kraken had no choice but to follow my order even though it was unwilling. After all, it knew that I would have gotten there whether or not it took me there.
When I arrived back at the Merman Empire’s capital, Ariel and the others came to see me.
"Where did you go all of a sudden?"
They had heard about what happened with the sea witches, so it was only natural that they would be worried about what I had done.
However, I just ignored them as I said, "I’m heading to the temple."
They looked at me with even more confused looks, but they didn’t stop me since they could see the serious look on my face.
Though that didn’t stop them from following me to see what was going on.
